where the heck are all the Glock 19 Gen 4's?

Glock did a run of the Gen 3 G19s for the Canadian market. Glock provided the extended threaded barrel they use for suppressed guns and the same sights used on suppressed guns. No Gen 4 guns were done. If you insist on a Gen 4 G19 you will likely be getting one with an aftermarket barrel.

I asked Glock about the availability of Gen 4 model 19 in Canada earlier this year in february. This is the reply i got :

At this time the treaded barrel guns are only produced in Gen3; we haven’t been given any information that, that is going to change.

Thank you for your interest in GLOCK products.

Too small of a market in Canada. They were probably just dumping off their Gen 3's. I wonder when they are going to discontinue the Gen 3 models. Doesn't make any sense to keep making them when they already produce the Gen 4's and all the initial issues with them have been resolved. Add the medium backstrap and you have the same size grip as a Gen 3,

They might need to keep making them to fulfill Mil contracts.

I just don't like the barrel sticking out beyond the slide on the Glock 19 it's weird looking and the sights are even worse.

Till they fix that the Glock 17 is my choice with the smallest back strap

Meh, the aesthetics of a Canadian-ized Glock 19 with a thread protector appeal to me. I just won't drop that much money on a Glock, so like you, G17 with no back straps is my go-to, although I also own a G21 and can manage it fine, without back straps as well.
