CZ 858 locking lug issue.

a while ago a company was doing some barrel treatment something like that i think , cant remember the name i think they went out of businesses but they kind #### up the process and ended up to make the receiver softer on a few riffle OP might have one of them

Thank you, it's good to know.

I have one that was treated by Sean Rauch. It was brand new at treatment and lasted about 600rds before it looked like yours. I had a few case head separations, then the action froze up. I'd suspect your headspace is going to be effected. He was never descent enough to return any of my attempts to contact him. The only good thing I could say is that my parts kit will never rust...

My 858 got the after market nitride treatment, about 1000 rds and my rifle is still perfect.. I must say that my rifle was in the second batch sent for treatment. The rifles sent in the first batch are supposed the ones prone to failures because the company did the treatment wrong, too much heat. my 858 wasnt new when i have it treated but still looking perfect, fingers crossed.

I guess if you strip it all the way down for parts and get every last bit, including magazines and wood, you could still get what guys, 500$? 600$?

Or are all the parts hooped too?

If you get it dewatted? I think a military collertor vendor in Ontario may sell them.

They still get a few $$ as a dewat.

ya ive thought about dewat but i really dislike dewats on principle.

Buy a new locking lug. There available from Dlask Arms for about 50$. Parts for these rifles are every where.

i dont think you realize what his issue is. his receiver is cooked, literally! the parts is all he has left. as long as they weren't "treated" as well....

You are right. I own VZ 58 and am worried this could happen to mine. Is this from many, many cases of shooting or an anomley.

it can only happen when the receiver has been heated to a stupid high temperature.
it will never happen, even under extreme use for any normal, correctly heat treated receiver.

I would say make it a de-watt as well, I don't think you would be able to to recoup enough in parts to help lessen the financial sting.
I know it sounds like a terrible thing to do, but from a money point of view it is probably your best option.
What does it cost now a days to have a rifle de-watted and who does this type of work?
