Anyone else seen something like this before? I have 2 brand new sealed boxes with 165gr Nosler Accubonds that are grey/black on one side of half or more of the bullets in each box. I wasn't overly concerned with it as I just figured it was cosmetic, but should I be (other than looks I mean)? Any affect on anything critical like pressure/accuracy etc? Both boxes were stored in a dry place and seals weren't broken at all. I've never seen this before myself and couldn't find anything in google. Heres some pics....

Looks like some got hit with the "lubalox" they put on the silvertips. I would return them....at a $1/bullet I'd want to make sure I was getting bonded vs cup/core silvertips.

It looks like someone left them in the oven too long :D

Seriously, I doubt they'd give you problems, but I would be curious enough to send that picture to Nosler and see what they have to say.

I wondered the same thing but have no experience with moly/lubalox, wouldn't that come off if I scraped it with my fingernail? This stuff didn't stain my fingers or rag and didn't seem to come off at all on the 1 I tried in each box.

Without a hands-on I think it looks like a form of tarnish ?
I had some in the shop like that but in my case I think it was caused by excessive humidity.

I had a box of Partitions that came like that. No issues with them, seemed to me like heat marks from manufacturing. I have no idea how they're made though.

Why? So they can send you a hat or some stickers? I had a problem with their bullets so I contacted them and because I am in Canada all they could do what send me some stickers.

Sorrry to hear that, I had a problem with some partitions(concentric rings on them)...I called Nosler and e-mailed pics, they said it was from shipping but they sent me a full box of 50 through Ellwood Epps and told me to keep my damaged ones for practice.

OP how did you come by the bullets? Nosler does sell off their "seconds" online and in certain stores.

How long ago was this?

A few of us on a Canadian reloading group on fb all got the same answers for their crappy qc. I will no longer buy anything nosler after being treated the way I was. Basically what I was told was because I was in Canada I can go piss up a rope.

Wow, I'm getting old...It feels like it was last week but the photos I sent Nosler are from April 2013. Maybe there's a new policy? I can understand the shipping damage since the bullets travel from Oregon to Ontario before getting shipped to BC...According to Google I'm 750km from Nosler but my bullets travelled almost 8,469km to get to my door.

Who knows how far the ones with the shipping damage travelled(they came from Grouse River, who do they get them from????)

This is the reply I got from them(copied from the email). It has nothing to do with the Canadian government as hornady sends bullets to people all the time with their "free bullets" when you buy some of their reloading equipment.

"Unfortunately the Canadian government will not let me send a replacement for that bullet"

That's a pretty lazy response from Nosler. Sounds more like they couldn't be bothered to stand by their product unless the end-user is American. Disappointed to hear.

Called Nosler just to see what they had to say about it. They answered the phone pretty quick, wasn't on hold more than a couple minutes and the guy I spoke to was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and professional and knew exactly what the issue was already. Apparently, they had changed suppliers for the boxes and the new supplier was using a lot of recycled cardboard/paper in the boxes which contained a solution (used for cleaning and breaking down the paper) that had a high concentration of sulphur which evaporated out of the cardboard causing the oxidation. He says there should be no noticeable difference in performance or safety and suggested, if I didn't like the looks, that tossing them in the tumbler for 15 minutes to half hour should clean them up nicely.

This is directed at NOSLER, WHY IN HELL WOULD I BUY YOUR PRODUCT? I've used a lot of Nosler bullets over the years but there are OTHER BRANDS, just as good or better such as BERGER,HORNADY & SIERRA to name a few.
When buying bullets I don't want something that appears to be WWII vintage.

While I agree a wash in a tumbler would probably sort out any cosmetic issues... Call me pessimistic, and assuming the projectiles are loaded by count, sealed in plastic and packaged...how should anything external; RE: moisture, chemicals, offgassing, etc. permeate 'sealed' plastic to a point where the projectiles react and oxidize. Does not compute. Unless I'm missing something?

Again, like you said, at > $1 per bullet. :/

I've seen that tarnish several times over the years, and not only on Nosler bullets. I have a bunch of old-style Winchester Silvertips that are
like that.
It will in no way affect the bullet's performance, nor will it harm the rifle. I would just load and shoot them.

To be bent out of shape over some cosmetics is outside of my "bubble" Dave.
