Very nice job!! You're lucky to have someone do that custom work!
This is very similar to the ruger Hawkeye I just had re-bored to .338-06. It is having a NECG masterpiece front sight installed right now. I ordered a ruger ghost ring peep from NECG as well. It will be wearing a vx-2 2-7 in Alaska arms quick detach rings. I will post pics when It's done!

Iam just borrowing DGs front sight insert for the time being. I'm going to order one asap. For general hunting close and far low light to mid day sun, what is the best bead to get. There is fiber optic, brass, and white or ivory colored. What do you open sight guys prefer?

Try it with this insert before you order anything. You will know pretty quickly if you need a taller or shorter insert.

Yeah it kind of reminds me of the CZ ZKK 60X pop up peep sight but mechanically much simpler.

I guess the only problem is that most bolt rifles sold today are without a front sight.

Too funny ! My old Whelen has been responsible for three different 9.3s going up for sale.
At least I have given the 9.3 a good whirl.. LOL !

... Remington 7600.... the only thing I can't get at to dry if I am caught in a downpour is the 2.5 sq inches in front of the butt stock.

I wish I was able to do that but I have become obsessive compulsive about maintenance and corrosion prevention...and I am addicted to G96 and Remoil .. I admire guys who can drop their 870 off the end of a beaver dam..fish it out..shake it a few times..then take it home and stuff it in the back of a clothes closet till next time - with no further attention but once again... I am VERY impressed with the OP's rifle..and choice of calibre!


FWIW.... I have had very good experience with the little brass inserts in my foresights....they seem bright enough without being a distraction and are durable when being dragged through the bush.

Since we are putting up Whelen pics here's one I did for my son about 5 years ago. A Ruger Mark II lefty with a 22-1/2" 12" twist King barrel.
It has since been beadblasted to a matte finish and now wears a 2.5-8 matte Leupold in matte Ruger rings. Nosler 225 Accubonds fit the mag box @ .030 off the lands and go 2700+ with Rel 15.
The lower pic is my Leeper built Pre'64 M70 Whelen in a McMillan Edge.

He did and he also gave me a proper lecture about not filling in the gap beside the bolt handle.
Enfield in appearance its actually a Remington Mod. 30 Express and began life as a 30-06..
