I recently purchased a CZ 455 Varmint in .22LR and was wondering what groupings other owners are getting at 75 yards and 100 yards?

Thanks.

The CZ 455 is a sporter rifle and as such if you get MOA at 50 yards without modifications you have an out-of-the box rifle that shoots very well. Group size will more than double at 100 yards because rimfire groups rarely if ever expand geometrically with distance. As a result it would be difficult to shoot MOA at 100 yards with a stock CZ 455. To help get the best results with this rifle, or almost any rimfire, it is necessary to use good match ammo. Bulk ammo is unlikely to shoot well even at 50 yards, except by internet shooters. It also helps to have a lighter trigger pull than comes with the stock rifle, good glass with sufficient magnification to clearly see the target, and a good front rest and rear bag. Then comes shooting technique.

FWIW 100 yard 50 shot target with my 455 and thunderbolt ammo. My rifle is experiencing accuracy issues and the ammo is not know for good groupings.

A rifle shooting well with good ammo will do around an inch with no wind.

My 455 American in .17HMR has put 5 rounds in 3/4" at 100yds with me behind the trigger. And I am not a great shot by any means but this rifle is the most accurate rifle I own. Out of the box stock with bushnell 3x9 scope and CCI v-max ammo (I torque my action screws to 22 inch pounds). At 50 yds (where I shoot it the most) I can routinely make 5 hits than can be completely covered with a dime. It is crazy accurate for me, I am never selling this puppy.

Typical groups I shoot at 100yds are between 1.25" and 1.75", I have only gotten 3/4" once.
Typical groups I shoot at 50yds are 1/2" give or take a hair.

New Cz 455 at range this week

The two small groups in blue rings are both 5 shot groups at 50 y target stickers are .570"
CZ 455 thumb-hole HV barrel,
RWS ammo
Scope 8 to 32x Mueller
at 100 y shot some groups under 3/4 " just.

Fine guns those CZs

IMO if you take a short heavy quality barrel like that on the cz varmint and eliminate all imperfections on the other variables (ie. perfect ammo, windless range, heavily rested, best trigger technique etc.) then the shots would have to go through the same hole.
It could use a trigger mod as mentioned above but the gun can shoot as well as any other if everything else was equal.

My lux will do .5" at 50 on a windless day (5 shot groups) never tried it at 100 on paper but it will smack gophers at 100 all day.
My american will do the same at 50 and at 100 average an inch some smaller some a bit bigger.
Both of those are 452's

The 455 american I had would shoot roughly the same though. Never tried any real high dollar ammo in them.

I also had a cil 171 that would average under .5" at 50 and 1.25" or less at 100 even with its awful trigger pull. Should have never sold that when I was downsizing.

I purchased my CZ 455 in January and have been putting a few hundred rounds a month since. I have sub MOA groups at 50 yards and I just started playing at 100. Here is my target from yesterday. It was a tad more challenging because it was a little gusty. I have to tame a few flyers but not a bad start. (The diamond is 1 inch)

I have done a little work on my rig;
Pro varmint stock (did the dollar bill test to ensure barrel was free floating)
Yo'Dave bolt spring upgrade
Falcon 5.5 x 25 x 50
Burris Rings
DIP extended rail 25 MOA
cheapy bipod(Saven for the Harris)

I do have the YoDave trigger kit but I thought I would stick with the factory set up and get use to a stiffer pull.

I have tried all types of ammunition in this girl. From the cheap bulk to Eley Black. I find that Winchester has given me the absolute WORST results for bulk and my Remington Thunder Bolts are shockingly amazing!!

That is kind of funny because the 222/333/555 stuff in mine does really well. Just shows they are all different.

Here is some of the ammo testing I did in January with the rig you see above, at 50 yards, started top left and worked my way across. I didn't label the target but I think its straight forward to see what ammo punched what groups.

Hope this is helpful!!

Nate

Eley and Dynamic Noble are the clear winners and the Blazers have a shotgun effect f:P:
