So i went to the range today with a couple of good friends of mine, one has his rpal and brought a few guns with him, second is not licensed but has joined us before. There was a another couple of guys already shooting when we got there and i noticed a "hand cannon" and recognized it as a SW500 and start to drool. The owner says would you guys like to crack off a few rounds? Of course all three of us said heck yeah! The largest caliber i had ever shot was .44 magnum so i was def hyped! We told him when he and his guest are ready let us know. So about an hour goes by, we shoot my guns and my friend's guns then look over and see our new found friend loading up some "torpedoes". Stop the press, we are in awe! they fire off a few cylinders full then say its our turn. Well let me tell ya, if you have never shot one of these bad boys, you are def missing out, OMFG!!!! the smiles on our faces were worth price of admission. Not something i would shoot all day long....my hand was still buzzing an hour later and we had gloves on but hell that was fun! We offered some cash for the ammo but he refused but we insisted as those are not cheap toys to play with.

All in all a great day!

That's awesome!! That's a good dude right there......

I bought mine purely for the ability to say "I've shot one".....and to share the experience with buddies. One does have to exercise caution. It's not one for the tiny or inexperienced (or worse yet, both). There's a story from the states of some Darwinian Hillbilly having his girlfriend "try it out" with a couple in the cylinder. Apparently theirs a way that if you lose control of the recoil your finger will pull the hammer for shot #2 at just about the time it's pointed right between your eyes.......

yeah there actually a youtube video of this same thing, 2 rounds almost fired same time.
We gave our buddy (the new guy only one round at a time just for that reason)

...it was a young girl. The 500 had a full cylinder and when she touched off the first round, the gun torqued and recoiled, her elbow folded. As she attempted to control the recoil, she gripped the gun by instinct (who's muzzle was now pointed under her chin and still traveling towards her) causing a second round to accidentally discharge via double action pull on the trigger. She was killed instantly. At the range. In front of her boyfriend who owned the gun and was video recording the goings on.

Lesson...don't give Magnums to the inexperienced. It ain't funny.

Nope, it isn't.

Scope scars above a pretty girl's eye aren't cool either....

...there you have it. We agree on some things after all GGG!? Spoken like a man who has daughters.

Have a daughter coming......and I like pretty girls - all of them, just as they are, without the half moon scar!!!!

Of all the concepts and attitudes we may disagree on, safety and common sense will never be one of them......

Have a 460V and a 500PC. They get plenty of attention when I haul them out at the range. Even more when I start shooting .

I do the "loaded, empty, loaded" scenario and I don't let them try the top loaded stuff.

Things I don't need:
- people new to hand cannons dropping mine
- the dreaded recoil induced double tap
- calling 911 'cause someone took the front sight to their forehead f:P:2:

(E)

I've only ever shot one round of the SW500. It wasn't pleasant but it really wasn't that bad either. But it was a handloaded round. Maybe it wasn't full power. The guy that owned the gun had two girls with him. Glad nothing happened to them like what was described above.

:) Well said. It's advisable to stand to the shooters right side, your left hand on their back, and your right hand over and in front of their head to catch the gun before it buries itself their head/face.

I've only shot a 500 a couple times, but it's a blast no doubt - pardon the pun!

But a .44M Redhawk loaded up with these kicked every bit as hard as the AE factory 500 loads...

...now I want a 45-70 BFR :p

The 500 is a sweet sweet gun. Also fired off and only loaded with singles at the range. Pretty much the whole range stopped and stared when I was going through them.

The recoil wasnt as bad as I had initially thought but it sure does go bang.

I fired a few rounds from Mildcustom2 's 500S&W.
Big boom! :)
He even tried firing it one-handed.
One round only, for the same safety reason.
He didnt drop the gun, so I tried it one-handed as well.
Managed to hold on to it also, but it sure lets your wrist know!

Sad the idiots out there laughing at dumb and dumber till someone gets killed. Loaded more than one round for newbies is just plain stupid. I usually load only 2 round for myself just cause that chunk of metal is heavy.

Gonna say though despite the weight my 500 PC is smooth and single action is crazy light and crisp.

Thank goodness for reloading. For something really snappy try 18.5grs Titegroup behind a 350gr xtp; worst than 43grs H110. Too chicken to load my 500grs XTPs.

Gunnee tries hard :)
