i am punching 1 moa with my winchester model 70 sporter in 30-06 (new m70) if its a new production go for it

Yes if it's new production Winchester's. Have one in 308 and it's sub moa at 100. Had an early eighties M70 in 30-06 and at best it was 2-3" moa at 100.

Nothing is a guarantee. I've seen stinkers from every brand.

A new production Mod 70 should do pretty well though.

Haha, Yup. But sadly both my vehicles at the moment are Fords..... So I speak from experience


But as to the OP's question, M70's are great (old and new), my EW in '06 is a 1 MOA rifle on a bad day. There's A LOT more to shooting accurately at 400-500yds than just the rifle though. The fact that such a broad and open ended question was asked suggests sone more experience will be required.

I had a new 30-06 supergrade that shot .5" at 100 yards with hand loads.

And I had a Super Grade 30-06 that I had to take back because it shoot 3" groups. Sometimes you get what you get. I do really like M70s though, have several FNs and a couple of builds.

if it's an older M70 Featherweight in 257 Roberts, do not buy it, the accuracy just ain't gonna be there no matter what you do! And yes, we did have one!
