Big Bore (.375 and up) Bolt Action Rifle ####

I got a Shilo Sharps long range express in 45-110 as well, nice rifle and cartridge. Loaded up to her max, she'd qualify for this thread as well. I made up some 500 gn jacketed loads at 2200 fps once upon a time but they were just way too ugly to make it a standard load.......what with the curved steel butt plate and all !!!!!!!!!!!

On the subject of Shilohs here is mine.
Its a 45-120- 3.25", over 13 lbs. hardly an ideal mountain rifle.
With a 565 gr. Brooks Creedmoor over a compressed case full of FG Black it will get anyones attention.

375hh, took the 1.75-6 off and got some gloss burris rings to go with the new 2.5-8x.

This is one of my 45-70s, an early Browning BPCR with a Badger barrel.
Its currently wearing the MVA 6X period scope but usually when I compete with it I use the Vernier rear sight.
Pet load is a 530 gr. Redding/Saeco bullet over 65 gr. FFG Black.
At one match about 15 years ago it shot a 300 yd. group measuring 3" x 4" for 15 shots, more luck than skill.

Nice Kevan, that last one is a Browning 78/Winchester highwall......yes? Those are a beautiful action, I like them better than the #1 action.

Yes, the actual designation is the Browning 1885 BPCR.
I can't remember when it actually came out but mine was supposed to be the first one in Western Canada so I was a bit apprehensive about how it would shoot especially being a dedicated BP cartridge gun.
Turns out it's a tack driver..

Wish I could post pics. I have a 458 wm on a interarms mark X action with a custom made stock that closely resembles a Parker Hale safari. It's fully glass bedded action and barrel and mag well. Sports hand cut checkering and mahogany inlays. It's a joy to shoot
My other big bore is a baikal sxs in 45/70 aka the Russian thug but I love it.

I've been playing with the idea of a bolt action 458 socom for well I don't know yet but I feel I need one

If you can't figure out the picture posting thing, you can email them to me and I can post them for you. PM me if you like.

I've always wanted to build a short action bolt in 450 Marlin or 458-2" American. IMO, it would be the perfect little bolt action "45-70"

Thanks for posting these for me. I really appreciate it. The first bear in the dark photos was the one that climbed the tree I was in and came right up behind my climbing stand. Not an easy shot with a 26" barrelled 458 wm. After a punch and some unkind words he scrambled down and was shot approximately 6' from the muzzle. 405 gr jacketed bullet at just over 2400 fps drops them fast
The next pics are of 2 different bears. One had a missing half foot. This is the bear that growled and barked and banged his teeth for almost an hour before charging right at me thru the thick undergrowth. I shot at the first black I saw. He died at 12' from me. 405 gr jacketed at 1800 fps Glad I had my double 45/70 instead of my bow. It's no where near as nice as Dougs gorgeous Merkel but mine can be used as a club if I have to. Don't know how he lost half a foot though.
The one laid on the rock was taken again with the 45/70.
These are my favorite 2 rifles and the start of long list of big bores I have to acquire.
