Hello,

I purchased a new Browning 725 sporting about a month ago an have put roughly around 400 shots through it shooting skeet and sporting clays (9 and 8 shot target loads). Last weekend when i was shooting i noticed some small chips in the stock where it fits to the receiver. To me they seem superficial. I'm pretty new to shooting and i was wondering if this is normal or if it could be part of a bigger problem? I haven't removed the stock from the receiver since i bought it and the bolts still seems tight.

I have added some pictures. I am wondering what some of you more experienced gun owners think.

Besides this issue (if it even is an issue) the gun works great and i can sometimes hit clays with it :)

If it where me I would send the pictures to Browning Canada along with the place of purchase and a copy of receipt.
I am far from an expert at gun fitting, but if the wood is chipping there it would be safe to assume ( although it never really is safe to assume ) the fit is pretty tight.

I had an 870 Wingmaster I bought new and the wood was doing the same at the butt stock at the recoil pad.
We removed the pad and the wood was not sealed in this area ...it was exposed wood... American Walnut.
Applied some Casey Gun Wax and had many a wet early morning and all day hunts in the marsh with no further development.

Your 725 is worth three or four times the value of my old Trusted 870 that I sadly regret selling.

YMMV.
Rob

Thanks for the help.

Called Browning Canada and they told me to contact a gunsmith by the name Keith Long. Sent Keith some pictures and am waiting to hear back.

That looks like zipper damage to me... it is catching the proud wood when being cased... I have seen that before... be a little more careful when sheathing your gun...

If Browning takes care of it for you, I would thank your lucky stars... good luck.

I wouldnt be happy with that. It appears as though the wood to metal fit was slighly off, which under recoil, could cause this issue. Out of curiousity, is the stock firmly held in place or does it seem a bit loose?

As far as i can tell the stock is firmly held in place. There is no looseness to it. Zipper damage is a good thought but with the case i use that part of the gun would never come into contact a zipper.

Stock wasn't headed up properly the little chips are where the highest contact points were and it has set back under recoil ...nothing else ,period.
It can be fixed but too bad it wasn't caught earlier .

I've dealt with Keith before on Browning warranty issues, both rifle & shotgun. No complaints !
He's over at Bewdley (Rice Lake) ... why not set up a meet & drive it over to him ?

Thanks for the Help Everyone. I'm gong to take it up to Keith on Rice Lake as recommended and get it fix while under warranty. Until then ill give my grandpas Double Auto a workout.
