What scope for a .243?

I can't believe nobody has asked yet . . . what is it for? You sure don't need a scope as large as a 3-15X on a rifle that will be used in a tree stand. If you intend to varmint shoot at extended ranges 15X might not be enough. Match the scope not only to the cartridge, but to how the rifle will be used. A compact, lightweight, short barrel rifle suggests hunting in thick, or difficult country, where a physically large scope has no advantage whatsoever. While a small rifle is not limited to such usage, IMHO, and with rare exception, big scopes on small rifles aren't very appealing, either aesthetically or practically.
 
I agree with your thoughts on this Boomer.
Was out shooting gophers yesterday and don't use an AO scope anymore.
Simple Leupold 2x7-28 on my old Winchester 69A.
Worked as far as that ole gal would toss them hollowpoints.
Last six scopes I purchased were all Leupolds, used and without the AO.
Sold a couple AO scopes at the gun show.
I see a remarkable trend here.........less AO's and more Lewpies.............:cool:

Really depends on what you are hunting, where and how.
 
Yep, depends on use. I have had from a 1.75-5, 3-9, 4-16, 6-25 and 6-24 on my .243.

It, as said, depends on where you hunt, how you hunt and what you hunt.

If I'm in wide open farm fields with hung up/gunshy coyotes, the 1.75-5 isn't the better scope to have and if I'm in thick woods or logged tracts with lots of tree litter, the 6-24 or 6-25 is a hinderance.
 
the 3-15 will do all the 2-10 will and more. That being said if you are shooting hogs in thick undercover than the shortest one may be best. I like lots of scope and like the looks of my large scopes on 22s, others- not so much. Lots to think about and weigh. Good advice so far, pick what applies to you.
 
Yep it depends what your going to use the 243 for. The Zeiss 3x15 will give you familiarity as you have two already the lower range part the 3x15 will give you low magnification for closer ranges, and the high magnification for those mountain top to mountain top shots. Personally all my scopes stay on the lowest magnification's, 1.5 or 2 or 3 for 95% of the time as I live in bush. I only crank up the magnification for target shooting. Your decision based on intended use.
 
I had a 2x7 on my 243 for years and it never left the 4X setting.

This is in coastal BC in everything from thick bush to wide logging cuts.
