Svt 40? Or vz 24?

Looking to buy either a hand select svt 40 or a VZ 24 from Lever arms. any advice ? i dont have any of these in my milsurp collection and i am leaning to the svt because i have a TON of 7.62x54. but i have no mausers yet soooooooo AND if i get an svt 40 izzy or tula?
 
If you have ammunition for one of them already then I think it's an easy choice.

I'm not sure what an "izzy" is but whether your SVT-40 was manufactured in the town of Tula or Izhevsk makes little difference.

The factory in Tula was evacuated early in the war so they had a short production run as well. The later "Tulas" were made in an entirely different town and factory but the dies were reused. It's just a matter of personal preference.

If it were my choice, I'd go with the SVT40. The ones I saw were fairly beat upon, with multiple upper hand guard wood repairs.
 
Easy! Svt 40

I am think in one year they will be double what they were a year ago ($300) and in 5 years well Id guess probably around $800 . Unless they find a new undryd supply.
 
From what I have read, there was about 1,600,000 svt's made. There may be a few left that haven't made it on a boat yet. LOL
Nothing much is passing through the Ukraine now because of what is happening in that part of the world.
Don't go thinking that current available stock is the last of these. As for which to buy , get em both. They are like night and day , or apples and oranges. Can't compare the two. They both have great history.
 
Personally I would go for a SVT-40. The VZ-24s have the crests scrubbed, and if I was to buy a VZ-24 I would want the crests intact (they are pretty awesome crests, Rampant Lions, Romanian Contract crests etc.).
 
VZ24 all the way. Can't go wrong for $350, it's a bargain compared to K98's and Yugo M48's. Had two SVT's and sold them both. Less of the VZ24's around and the SVT's are a dime a dozen unless you can find a rare version. The stock on my VZ24 is gorgeous, the bluing is excellent and the bore is almost like new. Bayo was brand new still in cosmoline and wax paper.

Always found the SVT's too long, bulky and clumsy rifles. Only thing the Mosin's and SVT's got for themselves is the cheap surplus ammo (if you can still get it). 8mm Mauser is expensive... but the workmanship on the VZ24 is stellar, whether the crest is buffed off or not, doesn't make much of a difference to me.

That's a nice looking vz but if I had to choose I'd take an svt any day of the week, semi auto battle rifle in x54r which is not hard to find. But if I had the cash to spend I'd take both home.

While I liked owning an SVT (I've had 5 or 6 over the years), I found chasing my good Ingram brass (for reloading) to be a huge PITA.

Nothing wrong with a VZ if the bore is nice. My only gripe with them is that rear swivel is AWFUL for lefties.

Did you just pick that up from Lever Arms recently and was it in the condition seen in the photos? I'm considering one, especially if they are in amazing shape like yours looks to be!

I don't think they're all quite that nice. The ones they had in the case when I was there were in okay shape, but definitely not as nice as st1264's.

When I first handled the SVT-40 it was much lighter and handier than I thought it would be. I was shooting a lot of M91s and Gewehr 98s a the time so even half a kilo lighter and a few cm shorter was a world of difference.

That's a nice RC Romanian vz. I didn't even know Lever had one's that nice. The examples I looked at had dark bores and were well used but refurbished into good condition.
 
SVT-40, one of the most undervalued semi autos on the market. Shoots cheap surplus and less than 2,000,000 made. There were 13,000,000 Lee Enfields made and now a good example commands $600.00 +. Try to find 8mm for a half decent price and the choice is obvious.
