To Cut or Not to Cut

Hello,
I have recently bought a H&R Survivor shotgun.
It has a rifled barel which accepts the .410 shotshell and the 45 colt.
There is a removable straight rifled choke that is installed/removed depending on what you want to shoot.

The frame is a SB-1.
I purchased another H&R Shotgun 12 gauge with a SB-1 frame also.
The 12 gauge barrel is 28 inches long with a fixed full choke.
It fits both SB-1 frames with no concerns.
I want to shorten it to match the .410 barrel which is also 20 inches long.
It will be easier to pack and fit into my shotgun carrier.

I want to be able to shoot 12 gauge shot and also 12 gauge slugs.
In the process of acquiring a 12 gauge or .410 gauge 22lr rifled adapter.
If there is anyone out there that is knowledgeable with the H&R SB-1 frame I have seen barrels that will fit the SB-1 frame that will shoot 44mag or 357 pistol rounds.
I do believe the pressures from these rounds are around 36000 and the .410 rounds are around 12000.
Can I load rounds up to this pressure for this SB-1 frame.
Just wondering why H&r would provide these barrels at a higher pressure if the SB-1 frame could not take it.??

The end result will be my bush gun.

And yes I am also in the process of getting everything ready to use 444 and 9.3x74r brass.
Will need info on loads for using this brass for .410 slugs.
But thats another project.

So I understand that cutting this barrel will be legal at 20 inches long.

Thanks all.

UPDATE:
Finally put the hacksaw to the barrel.
I scored another H&R Pardner 12 gauge shotgun from this site.
When I received it I was extremely happy.
2014 shotgun, laminated wood, not a scratch on it.

So that made up my mind to use the barrel from the first shotgun.
Nice barrel, fit good and locked up tight.
Stock was nothing to get excited about.
I cut that barrel to 20" with a hacksaw.
It turned out real good.
I put a small punch mark where I may install a bead sight.
Had to file about a 1/16 of an inch to get it squared.
Fine sandpaper to smooth and round the edge.
Placed it on my survivor SB1 stock/receiver.
Looks awesome now.
I also annealed some 9.3x74r and fire formed them last week.
20 rounds cost me near $60.
Will be working on some loads now.
Busy casting shotgun slugs now.
Cheers.

A hardware shop pipe cutter works really slick for shortening shotgun barrels. Maybe just a bit of a burr in the inside of the barrel.

Just remember to run a small file on the exposed threads of the new shotgun bead on the inside of the barrel, or it will go sailing off into the wild blue yonder with your first shot...It's happened to a couple of buddies over the years, and I wasn't around to warn them about the problem.

Depending on the thickness of your shortened shotgun barrel, you might be able to get a gunsmith to set you up with removable chokes. I'm thinking rifled choke for slugs, but see how it shoots first. You might be surprised enough to not even bother with the chokes.

O.K O.K I found some time to post pictures of my project.
I fire-formed some 9.3x74R Brass that will now fit my 410 barrel.
Those are the long ones, next to the 444 Marlin then the 45 Colt Brass in the pics.
These will turn into a 230 grain slug round.
I also have some 444 Marlin Brass which fits perfectly.
I purchased a UTG Homeland Security Case which the Survivor fits perfectly.
It has a front zipped pouch for mags but I will use these pouches to store 12g, 45 Colt, 410 rounds.

I will be adding a scope mount to both barrels next.
Cheers,

Not too interested in chokes.
I am trying to set up a good Bush gun.
Adapters will be next on the list.
Cheers.

I have tried some of the adapters and don't find them as "versatile" as they are advertised. I could be just me but I found the accuracy very poor with 12 gauge adapters. (even with a peep sight)

In case you change you mind on chokes I would recommend the threaded choke tubes, that will give you a proven versatility. The link shows my "shorty",,,

I watched your video and now I am a little intrigued.
It does make sense.
Another project on the list.
Cheers.
