Looking for a birds head SG grip and wonder what options are out there ?

- not really interested in making one

- not too interested in The ShockWave grip. Unless I'm mistaken looks like that one is a straighter angle than it needs to be to reach non-restricted status ??

- not concerned about restricted length. Just looking for a more natural angle BH grip.

What have you guys found?
Thanks.

You would be mistaken. The Shockwave is about perfect to achieve NR status with a 14" barrel. It's comfortable to shoot as well, considering it's plastic construction. The grip angle is a wrist saver. They're somewhat difficult to find in Canada.

I'm not aware of other companies making a similar grip. You may not have another choice other than to make your own.

The angle on the Magpul sga buttstock is just about perfect, I just don't want on bad enough to sacrifice a perfectly good SGA stock

Have you actually tried the ShockWave grip? Feels very natural to me and comfortable even after dozens of rounds of slugs & 00 buck….

No Sir, have not tried it.

I fully understand the straight grip is much easier on the hand than a vertical type pistol grip. Had done some reading on the Shockwave and recall some comments on it being straighter than need be (to reach NR length status) and made for an uncomfortable trigger reach.

Again, have not tried myself and going on others comments.

Thanks for the picture. Does look like a good piece of gear.

Exactly. I was thinking of a birds head with the Magpul SGA grip angle. Guess this doesn't exist on the market ?

Shockwave Raptor Grip is the best Bird's Head grip on the market, period. Anyone telling you different, has never tried it. I bought several of these (one for myself) and sold the rest of them on the EE in about 15 minutes, last year.

That might be the case with a Mossberg if you have smaller hands or stubby fingers. On an 870 you likely won't have this issue. Just buy one and try it. If you don't like the feel, you're going to have no problem selling it.

For sure, think they're pretty expensive now as Shockwave doesn't ship directly to Canada anymore, have to get from a 3rd party who ships them here at double the pricing.

I'm not sure I understand your concern here but a 14" 590 with a Raptor grip is still NR. As you can see you can still operate the controls (on a Mossberg) vs a regular pistol grip.
It's a solid piece of plastic (not hollow) but some find it a bit slippery when wet….

I made my own Raptor grip in about five minutes.

I just cut off an old plastic stock that I wasn't using.

It works better than fine.

Yeah the shockwave. Iam lucky to have a verified addy in Montana.

Just over legal, Un-fired back then. Too many bear intruders when this was snapped so it lived in the bottom draw.

I prefer the shorter Speedfeed Witness protection over the Shockwave because the swell that helps hold your hand from slipping to the rear is in a better position to keep your hand where it needs to be. The Shockwave is good for meeting over all length requirements on some guns but the grip (specially on a Mossberg) is to far to the rear for my preference. I solved the issue by wrapping some hockey tape around the grip and building up a swell further forward.

That's quiet the shorty. It's as if Chris Costa resigned the old WitPro...AND I LOVE IT. How does the missus feel about your piece taking up her drawer?? Haha.

All kidding aside, that is a rather incredible piece. Credit on the pick; credit to the creator.

I wish Hogue made a birdshead grip in addition to their excellent Tamer grip. I think it would be an ideal design.

That would be nice, same overall length of the shockwave but with some finger grooves or an earlier swell at the rear to support the strong hand while pulling back.
A short hogue foreend for the Mossberg would be the icing on that cake.

So basically options come down to the Shockwave, Speedfeed, make your own, or the more painful vertical grips..... from what I'm seeing here.
