Hmmm... what could be in this box that sold for $87.90 in 1973? Pics tomorrow.

A 870 sold for $150 to $210 bucks for a 12 gauge in those days so would like to see also. Can't find 4880 listed in those years so thinking it might have been an older gun sold in 1973.

I'm going out on a limb and saying it's a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge... another stab in the dark; serial number S818452V...

Am I close? Huh? Huh?

and of course, nobody hunts or does anything sporting with a shotgun !!!!

That's better. And yes, it's a new-in-box 73 Wingmaster AP. Still has the original styrofoam packing and everything. There are a few handling marks and it's been fired at some point, but it's as close to new for a shotgun of this vintage as I've come across in a long time. Pics later tonight.

Nice find... Ima luv me a nice Wingmaster...

As a matter of semantics though; a gun that has been fired is not "New in Box"... just a clarification for those posting in the EE.

"New-ish in box" lol. Whoever used it once or twice carefully replaced it in the factory box. Odd.

Lulz.....

I would guess not as this is in the hunting and sporting arms forum, not the shotgun forum. But I could be wrong:)

Never did figure out why they didn't name the forum the "Hunting and sporting rifles forum".... technically an 870 wingmaster is a hunting and sporting arm......

No new wingmaster sold for $87.90 in 1973.
Back then we did a lot of lay aways and guys would put a down payment on the gun and we would write in pencil what was remaining to be paid on the box just like what you show
Cheers

Doesn’t make any senses , but the price looks like $879. to me??????

Wish I had more insight. The pencil park was there when I got it this week. It could be like 3macs1 said. Though I found a Canadian ad fir a Wingmaster deluxe (checkered and vent rib) from 1973 and the Moro was $156 in that ad. An AP with plain bbl would have cost less than that, but probably not half as much.

Maybe the dealer wrote on it what he paid for it wholesale, $87.90, but in a way that could be mistaken for a stock number. Or it might even be a stock number.
