Building a striker fire

Hey all, just wondering if I were to build a custom pistol from parts, assuming I buy online, which parts will have to be registered when I buy them? If you build your own pistol which parts need to go through the government process of being registered? Just wondering! I've never bought online before, but it would be nice to know!

Thanks

The frame is the only registered part of a firearm. Everything else is just random bits of metal and plastic.

And what would you be building? There are very very few firearms that you can build from parts, and the only striker fired one would be a Glock.

Other than the SIG 320 the frame is what is registered for handguns AFAIK. The 320 has a movable trigger/sear assembly that gets registered that fits into different polymer frames. When you are done, assuming you build a Glock or M&P you will have nothing more than a store bought pistol. Not much to either pistol and they are both easy to strip to parts and re-assemble.

I could see if he wanted to build a glock with an aftermarket slide cut for an RMR or something fancy. No sense in buying the whole thing if he wanted a bit of a fancier pistol and then have to deal with selling off unused bits.

Kinda seems to me you're gonna end up paying 3 times the price of a new pistol if you want to build it yourself from oem stock parts.

This.

You can buy a Glock with the cuts for an Optic as you can for a S&W.

I managed, more by fluke, to get a full .40cal slide initially with the idea of just putting it on my 9MM fs frame. A full size complete frame showed up on the EE so I ended up with a complete .40cal fs for $325. If I had to buy new parts for the whole deal I would have been well over a price of a new gun.
