45 brass for re loading

I am just getting into re loading and am wondering where most people get their brass for re loading. I am sort of looking at the once fired bulk brass from Bass Pro... Is it any good what should I be looking out for. Is it better to buy new and take my lumps on the price. Is their other sources of once fired brass other than Bass Pro. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated. Steve O
 
Last range trip guy beside me ask if I want all his fired brass off the ground as he has too much.

Why do folks not list their location???
 
start with a hundred or so, it does last a long time, I got a few thousand still reloading the first 250 over and over again, usually lots left at the range
 
45 brass will last forever, I have a bunch that have been reloaded so many times the head stamps are gone. If your OK with small primer brass I will send you a bunch of once fired brass for the cost of shipping alone, I don't use the small primer brass. PM me if your interested.
 
Place your location under the "Location:" so that local folks can help you out. I've given away hundred 45ACP brass to numerous folks starting out. As all have said 45ACP is the fat low pressure boy that last forever.

I bought once fired brass off the EE for a good price to just to get started. After that, I just built up my stash from picking up range brass.
 
For 45ACP I'd highly recommend you pick a primer size and stick with it though. Mixing LP and SP 45ACP brass, especially when you have a progressive press is a recipe for a bad day.

I personally run SP, as all my other handguns are SP, so it saves me from having to swap primer assemblies and retuning the tension each time.
 
You have had some very kind offers on free brass. I would jump all over that. At gun shows it goes for 12-15 cents a round. 500 would be good to start. As above sort out the brass by primer size and only use 1 size. sell or trade the others. Lots of good info. here as well as to what cheep bullets work. I cast for my 45s and that reduces the $ per round. Good luck & have fun.
 
if you guys are giving away brass i'll take some lol OP definately take them up on their generousity, i live near you, i'm no expert reloader but i do reload 45 so if you have any questions feel free to pm me & i'll do my best to help
 
Really nice design of the HDY LNL is that all the other stages are done on the downstroke, only primer seating is down on the up so easy to feel for seating. Had the occasional small mix in; felt it right away. Stop, check, toss into SP pile. Similarly no resistance at all seating SP into LP hole so stop, check, toss brass into LP pile.

45ACP is best for casting. <1000fps, <900fps for light load. Hardness/antimony% isn't a big issue unlike casting for 357/44.

That's how I do it. I'll sort SP from LP after cleaning but there's the odd one that gets missed.
