Went out to shoot some paper and steel today, but when I got to my shootin spot this morning the wind was still gusting pretty good when it said that it shouldnt of been. Since I wanted to shoot some new loads but not in the wind, I decided to go for a little walk to look for a pair of coyotes that I screwed up on TWICE this winter.

I didnt have very far to go since it was on the other side of the field I was in. Gathered all my gear needed for the lil trek and I was off. Come to the top of the ridge at the edge of some bush where I could see down into the area I wanted to get into and what do you know, I spot some movement with in seconds of arriving. I spot the pair about 600yds away and coming my direction. The sun was in my favor but the wind wasnt in this spot. One thing I was hoping for was that I was much higher then they were and I was hoping that my scent would be way to high for them to sniff me out, and I think I was right because they never did get a of sniff me. :) Anyways I snuck into a good shooting position and watched them for about a half hour walking in and out of bushes finally laying up beside a tree in the shade for a rest. Ranged the tree at 430yds, but they were both behind some branches so I didnt have a good shot. They were only down for about ten minutes when one of them got up and gave me a nice broad side shot on it. I was a little leary about taking this shot because I scrubbed my barrel clean the night before and I know that when its freshly clean its off for a few rounds, but not on this shot. The coyote fell straight to the ground and its partner took off like it was on fire. heh Well after the couple of high fives Ive given myself I get back on the rifle and look to make sure it was still there. It was but I saw one of its back legs slowly moving and since I wasnt here for the fur I gave it one more for good measure.

My position. They were down by the river in the bush alittle ways. RIfles still pointing in the right place.

Looking back to my position. I was on the top of the ridge in the left opening area.

Oh yeah. Beat my longest kill by 9yds from last year, but that was with the 243. Today was with my 223.

Thanks guys

Tin: Its was just the gusts of up to 25k.

BTW it was the male. No father to teach them to not come a runnin when I start playing sounds for them next winter. :)

Yeah it was just the one coyote, the other one ran away.

I dont really know how many fawns they would talk down. I guess it depends on how many deer in the area, what other local food sources there is.

With gusts, again that was a nice shot, glad you anchored that one, now to get the other for a matching set :)

Thanks guys.

Since it was the female that ran away. I think Ill leave her so she can raise her pups, that way Ill have double the fun. :p

A farmer 8 km's away just had a calf taken down last week and he wouldnt mind if I stopped by to see if I can find anything stalking around, so there might be a another story coming. I hope so anyways because that means I will of gotten to take another down. :)

Thought I would post this here since its kind of a continuation of last week.

Was out early saturday morning looking for a coyote or two that took down a calf about a week ago.

Wont bore you with the details but after a bunch of sneaking around I blew a few howls from the hand caller. Was going to use the ecaller but decided against it at the last minute. Called this male off the field and hit him at 114yds.

He came down the fence line between the two fields
