So I want to buy my first and last 300 win mag hunting rifle. I am looking at the x bolt, and rem 700 but I don't have a clear leader. Suggestions and any new rifles that you may suggest would be great!!!!

I have a tikka t3 stainless HB that came with a composite stock. Despite the heavy barrel profile it was very light weight and would make a very accurate hunting rifle. I currently have it in a tac21 chassis and is my long range rifle. The action is great, the trigger is adjustable and consistent. Hope this helps.
300 win mag kicks so she's currently at the gunsmith getting threaded for a brake; mind you I go through 50-100rds at the range when I'm shooting her.

Best thing you could do is go into a local gun shop and handle the rifles you are interested in. Bring them up to your shoulder and see which one fits you the best. We are not all built the same so some rifles will tend to fit you better than others will. Remington's, Browning's, Winchesters, Savages, Tikkas, Sakos, Weatherbys etc...will all shoot just fine. Most, if not all, factory rifles these days will be very accurate. It's the guy behind the trigger who screws up the shot most often, not the gun. What's most important with a rifle with a good amount of recoil is that it fits you right, no matter which makers name is on the barrel. Good luck and I hope you are happy with whatever you end up choosing.

I bought (ordered in) my 300WM (Sako m75ss) back in 1997, thinking I was going to be a 1-rifle guy--WRONG (I already had a 300WM previously and wanted something newer). The rifle bug bit in 04/05 and now have good selection of calibers in Sako m75 rifles...lol.

As mentioned by DG above, go handle different brands and see what fits and shoulders the best. I think a pkg. deal in a Sako A7ss 300WM would be a great buy. Look maybe for a used Sako m85 in the EE.

I had a friend buy a new 300WM in the Sako A7 RoughTech Pro last year as he wanted to upgrade from his old Winchester m70 300WM. He mounted a Leupold VX2 4-12x40 scope. He loves it.

180gr Accubonds or TTSX's get my vote for ammunition . I believe the 180 grain bullet is the best choice ballistic wise for the 300WM.

Had a 700 BDL in .300, great rifle. Made in mid 90's, new ones are not getting same reviews, me be hit and miss.

Consider Tikka T3 Hunter, Weatherby Vanguard 2, CZ, Howa, Winchester Model 70 etc... as well. :)

Go to a few stores and handle them for fit and finish before you buy.

Ooops, I am officially a Big Mouth. :)

I've got a Vanguard S2 in .300WM that consistently shoots ~1" with decent factory loads, and that I can keep between .5" and .75" with hand loads for hunting. I find the action incredibly smooth, and I do like the 2-stage trigger. I did find it a little front heavy, but a butt-stock shell holster with 9 .300WM rounds in it balanced it out. All in the rifle weighs 9.5lbs, I've got a Nikon Monarch 4-16x40 in Tally 1-piece rings on top of it. I don't find it too heavy to carry, but you're mileage may vary. Lighter rifle, more felt recoil.

As previously mentioned take a look and handle the different makes/model's, and keep in mind a Howa 1500 and a Vanguard S2 are the same rifle with different stamping's. Find something that fits you.

In a heavy calibre a heavy rifle is not necessarily a bad thing

I have a 300wm in a Ruger M77 stainless, nice combination

I bought a used Winchester M-70 in .300 WM......for $450. At the time there were tons of 'em in gun stores as everyone was trading in their old WM's for short mags, or ultra short mags. It functions flawlwssly and shoots cloverleafs.....despite a little pitting in the end of the barrel. It isn't the prettiest rifle I own, but it's always the first one I want to take out and hunt with......the pretty ones get used at the range.

Steyr Pro Hunter at Prophet River. Just bought one and am super impressed by the quality and accuracy. I have had many rems and one Xbolt.

First and last........ Make it a Sako, although........ I hate to say it but my Remingtons all shoot just as well as any of my Sako's and they do it for considerably less money. Still if it is as you say your "first and last" 300 win mag, hard to beat a Sako right from the fit and finish to the way they shoot. If it were me, the nicest looking production rifle on the market right now imho is the Sako Bavarian....although the Rem CDL is pretty darn nice as well. FYI, I've had 6 300 win mags and the two that I have never parted with are a Sako 75 and a Remington Sendero, both bought as soon as they were available.

One rifle...spend the money...even if you have to save up for a while.

Another vote for the 700 Rem.........if it will be your last, then look at models above the SPS models, as they are the lowest end of the 700s and lack the nice finish and come with a plastic stock. The CDL are very nicely done and the BDLs of course........if it were me I'd be looking for a mint condition old 700 Classic.

Out of your choices, the 700 which with its many variations covers a lot of area. With a lot more detail about exactly how you plan to use it, conditions and ranges it can be narrowed down a lot more than that, and other suggestions made.

I had a very accurate Ruger 77 that I thought was a great all round rifle. Also had a Rem. 700 in same. The Rem also fit me and would shoot better than me. Long story short, find a fit and look you like and start reloading for it. AJ

700 I recently got a sendero 300wm and am hooked on the model 700. Will be getting the mountain so here very shortly and thinking on building a custom rifle on a 700 action. Just love the gun.

If you tend to appreciate traditional style rifles then Rem M700 wood and blued BDL or CDL, or Winchester M70.
If you tend towards utilitarian and looking for accuracy and a good trigger out of the box, then it would be hard to beat a Tikka T3 stainless/synthetic.

Find yourself a Browning A-Bolt II in 300 winmag and sight it in with 180 grn bullets.
You will be golden out to 200plus yrds should your capabilities allow for it and of course the best scope you can afford to go with it as well.
Equal to or greater than the price of the gun.
