Vz.58 Longevity and Parts

Is there a wear life for the main and striker springs? They're solid enough that I could see them lasting the life of the barrel. If you ask someone who was issued one of these about wear parts, they will laugh at you.

Everything has a wear life. Likely a very long time though!
If parts are cheap and you can afford them buy them! You can always sell them later if you don't want them

You can't just swap the bolt or carrier in a vz58. They are headspaced to the rifle, just like an ak or garand. Dropping in a replacement bolt without fitting for headspace could cause a kaboom. Have to have an armourer do it, or at least have the proper tools and experience before you do it yourself.

I was not aware of that - can anybody else confirm this?

They do have 5 year warranty. A real FULL parts kit will set you back allot or at least close to the price of a used VZ. 870P nailed it with the parts you should look for. In a shtf scenario your not going to haul around a full parts kit anyway, and i would reconsider your choice unless of firearm if you live in rural areas.

You should be more worried about what your going to do when pushed outta the house at -40 in rural canada and run into into a bear while eating some jerky and all you have is 7.62x39. I would be impressed if your that prepared to haul around more equipment for your gun then people take hunting. Gear weights you down and full spare parts kit would be low on my list.
