Well I couldn't resist..........there at the top of my pasture just outside the fence, (still my property) stands another bear only a nice light cinnamon. Not nearly a bid as the first but very pretty and showing no rubs from what I can see. I just can't resist........out comes the 7 RUM and from the same position against the porch post...........

Smaller sow, probably 5 1/2 ft about a 3 or 4 year old and for sure no cubs........probably better meat than the last old boar.........

Can't be much bigger than your dog. :)

Grizz

Comments like that will not endear you with me............;);)

I never said it was big.........but she was looking at my pet donkeys with a certain malevolence............I just shot her because I could, and I believe black bears are just oversize varmints anyway. I guess I'll have to let the wife shoot the next two as she has 2 tags as well.........;););););););)

In BC that's exactly like we all thought and did, until about twenty years ago.
Then the anti's made a major push to stop shooting bears, so the government reclassified the bears from varmints to game, putting the restriction on them that the hide must be taken.
The anti people then demonized "trophy hunting," shooting bears for their hide, so an accommodating provincial government ruled you could leave the hide, but must take the meat.

Yep "H".........well I still think that way, and with the kid coming of age this spring we have lots of tags around here.

If you look at the "ear set" you can see that it is a mature bear, just not a big one.......and no cubs. Besides ..........she needed killin', I could just tell she was up to no good !!!

Ah DG......I can take a little ribbing........thick skinned as I am...........Besides when I finally found her and flipped her over I thought exactly the same thing........:d:d It's tough to judge a bear a 400+ mtrs............

Good work, Douglas!! I like the colour. She will be good table fare.

You can continue to shoot those Blackies, FWIW. They are just large "varmints" lol.

Cheers, Dave.

Hoyt......a 4 or 5 year old barren sow, given all the bears around here, is likely not going to produce any, anyway...........she was in decent shape and appeared healthy so chances are she is infertile.........best to remove her as she is just eating grub productive bears could eat. I don't think the amount of bears I shoot around here has any affect on the population what-so-ever........Besides what can I say.......I just love swatting black bears...........

pb391............at over 400 mtrs I think the 7 RUM is perfect, and this is #2 this spring with it..........I do have a 300 RUM and a 300 WBY, or a 378 Wby or 340 Wby..........What 400 mtr cartridge would you like to see the next one shot with, and don't even think about saying 270 or you will instantly be put on "ignore"......:d:d
When I went to find her, I did take my favorite bear swatter just in case...........Mod 7 KS 350 Rem Mag. It's perfect for them hair burnin' shots when you find them not quite dead yet, and they take exception to you putting holes in their nice fur coats.
