Hey all,

Looking for real world opinions on HoloSun red-sot sights. It would be going on my DPMS AR.

I've read reviews where they are either amazing and the best thing ever or they are a waste of money and complete garbage. Nothing really in the middle.

Before it gets posted - I'd love to be able to drop $600+ on an AimPoint PRO but I just don't have the scratch right now. If your advice is to save the $250 for the Holosun and put it towards an AimPoint PRO then I'd appreciate your reasoning.

Thanks all!

I too have wondered the same. Looking for an optic for my AR build and have considered Holosun, but reviews are hit and miss.

I have two of them and actually prefer them over the aimpoint purely based on price. Now keep in mind I'm not going to war, and would not be laying my life on the line with these optics any time soon, but they hold up for 3 gun no problem. One of the two I have beat to $hit and it still flicks on first try, havnt changed the battery in 2 years, hasn't fogged up, hasn't gotten dimmer, has been banged up, muddled up, watered like new sod, and keeps on kicking.

Holosun 100% for the win.

I've got 3 of 'em mounted on .12 ga shotguns with many rounds down-range and no issues. I have a couple of the solar models with the circle-dot reticle on carbines of mine and they are outstanding. The reticle of an eotech, but no blurring, etc. The reticle is crisp and bright. Outstanding sights!

I've got one on my 7.5" AR and I prefer it to the Vortex sparc on my other AR. Battery life is better, and the reticle is more clear. I found the sparc chews through batteries, and they aren't just a standard CR3202 or whatever the regular watch battery is.

I have the HS406A on my 12.5" AR. Absolutely couldn't be happier with its performance. I use it for CQB matches and it has not let me down in sun or cold temperatures.
As others have stated the battery life is great. The dot is crisp and clear.

A good friend runs the Micro and also has had no concerns

I wish I had bought 2 of these red dots before Canada ammo went out of stock.

I asked the same question recently and everyone was very happy with theirs so I took the ankle deep plunge and bought an HS403A. Very happy with it, glass is clear with very minimal tint and the dot is crisp. I passed on the solar models for the obvious reasons of identical battery life and auto brightness adjust never works right. Overall I'm very happy with it.

I've had a 403G on my Valtro 12g for two years... Probably 600 rounds through it in that time with no issues.

The new Vortex SPARC AR may be worth a look too... Running off AAA battery is a nice feature...

They are a good buy, tough and work like a charm- I don't have any complaints with my 515c, and look forward to models they have in the pipe. It might not be the same class as Aim Point, but I'll tell you I preferred my 515c over the Aim Point Comp M4S I had.

Any model recommendations for my AR? I don't really want the solar option.

Also any other sources other than CanAmmo?

Thanks all for your input.

Vince,

Go Holosun and don't look back! Grab the solar one, you wont regret it! Pretty much never have to replace the battery! HS403C is a good deal at Canada Ammo with free shipping. But if you insist on non-solar, then you may have to wait, they don't have any in stock it seems.

There really isn't. It's you're choice to keep it battery powered or in solar mode, battery will be on most of the time to make sure you can see it crisp and clear. Solar mode can get washed out, but works well in overcast. The down side is that it's more expensive, what I like about some of the other models is motion sensors for activation, but you may also need to buy a rise for mounting on an AR.
The solar one has battery back up so really no downside that I can see.
