Im looking to carry a shotgun this coming coyote season and am looking for suggestions on a lighter weight semi auto that's reliable. Looking to spend in the 1200-1400 mark. Im really not a shotgun guy so Im all ears to what some of you guys have to say. Im not interested in fancy wood, or O/U's..something solid, that can take a beating and still function 100%

Cheers!!

Beretta Extrema with 3.5" of #4buck (54 pellets). Makes them cartwheel.

Curious why a shotgun? Pushing bush?

Around here it's rare you would ever get a yote in shotgun range.

I get them coming in very fast at times and within 20 yards, hard to get them in my scope for a good shot. I also call in thick cover at times and you see them till they are almost on your lap lol. I use on old Winchester 1200 pump and it works but is hard to pump when Im sitting down..semi auto would b nice. Shotguns also require very little sewing when hit.

Nice work Dilly...what range do you get with those 3.5" #4's??

I find when you get them in a pack they come in hard. Like they are trying to beat out the competition. I purchased myself a Rem 1100 and thought I might use it for coyotes, but my rifle is kind of heavy and I don't seem to have room for a shotgun. Especially when trudging through a foot of snow for half a mile.
To be honest I would look at one of the Turkish brands. They seem to work decent and you wouldn't feel bad banging it around. Could buy a black one and do a winter camo job on it.

I got that one in the picture running in front of hounds . He was maybe 25 yards when I smoked him. Effective range would be out 35 maybe 40 yards. There is a lot of lead heading down range with one of those shells.

Honestly if you only want it for yotes get a mossy 930 and save some money for expensive ammo. Want a nice gun, go wini semi or browning silver - but you are paying for some stuff you don't care about in that price range. I would recommend an after market choke though - I find a good choke extends the range quite a bit. I would not feel hesitation in shooting a yote at 60 yards with the right load/choke combo.

Paying for stuff that you don't care about with a win or s browning Ya like quality something mossberg and Turkish guns lack . A super x3 with a 26" bbl would be perfect don't need the 3 1/2 " version 3" will ruin there day

All of these threads always turn into a "buy a mossberg" and "you don't need 3.5"....

My opinion, buy quality the first time around and 3.5 gives you choice and versatility. But hey, what do I know. Used Extrema's pop up on the EE in your price range.

I run a Remington 11-87 currently with a 18" barrel that really like the hornady varmintexpress 2 3/4" 4b. But previously I was shooting an akkar 600 field model. With a extra full choke it patterned Winchester super X 4buck into 12" @ 40 yards. Just the ticket for those hard charging dogs looking for a fight or lunch.

I based that on his intended need and Desire
for something not fancy. You may have noticed I recommended a wini or browning.

Went with the Winchester SX3...was either it or a Browning Maxxus and went with Winchester due to the 15% rebate they are offering for the week. Plan on doing some bird hunts with it too.

I have that gun - fantastic. I find patternmaster chokes do wonders, but I never tried another brand.
