Looking for a tent

The Scorpion two is a phenomenal tent, the fly sets up first and you hook the tent into it. So you can just use the fly, the fly alone makes a great place to shoot prone rifle from in the bush when it's raining, you just leave the door part way zipped open. However, the tent does not work if you are over 6'1. I ended up passing it on to my brother as I was to tall for it.

I'm a big fan of the Tipi tent that's made in Kamloops BC
Just one Center pole ,put a wood stove in for cold morning ,plenty standing room for wen weather is bad and still keep your gear dry
If your packing in just leave the pole at home and cut your own pole or tie it under a tree

Depends on what you mean by backpacking in the mountains. Are you going for altitude or keeping it down low? Higher altitude = go with lighter weight equipment if you can.

I use a Northface 2-man Mountain 25. It is 17 years old and going strong. Just used it 3 months ago on a mountain trip. There a various good 4 season tents these days, and the choice generally comes down to features and weight when you are choosing.

I only use my Mountain 25 in winter and certain shoulder season times only. Spring/summer/fall, and high altitudes I use other tents or sleeping options.

I've had an MSR Hubba Hubba out in severe winter weather. Cheapest lightweight 4 season going.

You really do want a 2 person tent, unless you're one of those yoga guys who can zip themselves into a duffel bag.

As a kid we used to have a canvas tipi style tent (it was yellow), a lot of good memories.

The wife is a bit leary of the price tag, but I think I can soften her up. lol

Seeing how you live in Kamloops you shood go to the manufacture and see if thay have a tent to borrow or rent for a weekend
Wen you wife wakes up to a nice warm tent she will fall in love with the tipi tent and so will you

I found a used Expedition Venus III, 4 season tent. Its a little heavy but the weight will be split by two hunters. The original owner only set it up in his back yard, so its basically brand new. Its a 3 man tent so it has a little more room. I bought it cause the price was right and it looks like a quality tent.

Looking for a 4 season tent one person good for backpacking in the mountains all ideas will be good

Hilleberg if you're serious, MEC or MSR if you're casual. You're better off to take advice from a mountaineering forum on this than a hunting forum, very few people here do full tilt alpine hunts.

I have seen about a total of 2 Hillberg tents in all of my mountaineering days. I see tons of MEC and MSR tents (among many other common brands) being used in all areas of the mountains by all types of climbers, skiers, and mountaineers. Hillberg is an excellent high quality bomber tent, but it does not even come close to the number of other tents being used by very serious mountaineers from my observation in the Rockies anyway. This past weekend I had a look around and talked to a few friends while climbing and not a single Hillberg in sight. Marmot and MSR were at hand this past weekend. The reason......price to quality to weight ratio. You do not need a Hillberg to survive in the mountains, and the money you save can be put toward other gear that has higher comfort or safety value when playing in the mountains.

My last alpine hunt included an MSR at -20C, and 1 to 2 feet of snow with high winds at moderate altitude. MSR delivers the goods time and time again. Unfortunately the damn sheep slipped past us!

MSR (if I remember, they only make 1 particular 4 season tent) and others make great 4 season tents. Watch the weight. Reduce your carry weight as much as possible and you will be happy you did. Hillberg is top notch but not the only great tent for very serious users.
