Building a 9mm AR

OK folks, so I am building a 9mm AR. I have parts already and was given a whack of 9mm - a caliber I actually don't shoot. Yet. I am thinking of making a DD MK18 clone: short barrel AR with quad rail. I would use Colt 9mm mags pinned to 10 rounds.

Here's my build list:

Aero Precision stripped upper and lower
PSA premium lower parts kit
Ballistics Advantage 11" barrel
Hahn Precision or RRA mag well block (thoughts and opinions on these parts would be welcome)
Colt or RRA 9mm bolt
Milspec buffer tube & stock
Colt 9mm buffer
RRA A2 style birdcage

Do I need a buffer spacer?
Do I need a carbine or rifle length spring?
Will the YHM specter length quad rail give me the look I am after: just a hint of barrel and birdcage sticking out of the rail.

Any obvious omissions or errors?

Thanks in advance

I don't want a Angstad.

As for Colt mags, aren't they the equivalent of 1911 9mm mags?

IRG has them listed as 10/32

All colt parts except the lower

The lower is a CQ 10 9mm colt lower

This gun runs on colt 9mm AR mags

I have been thinking about an AR/9mm project as well. SGN had a write up about making one, using a surplus Suomi M31 barrel.

Rather than using a dedicated lower, I was thinking of using a magwell adapter insert in a standard lower. The Pro Mag version is not expensive. But does anyone in Canada sell inserts, rather than dedicated lowers?

I'm not following you. Do you mean "rather than using a dedicated lower"? The upper is dedicated to 9mm because the barrel is 9mm. The lower is "not as dedicated" because I would remove the mag block, buffer, bolt and swap them out for 223/556/300 BLK if I needed to. Kinda like bacon and eggs: the chicken was involved, but the pig was committed.

I've gotten mixed reviews on the pro mag block. I've not heard much bad about the Hahn Precision and I've heard nothing about the RRA block.

Typo. Meant dedicated lower - one cut for the 9mm magazine. Already have a standard lower I can use, would rather not get another. That is why I would prefer to use an insert. Pretty sure I can adapt the Suomi barrel to a standard upper. That leaves the bolt as the other major component to be obtained.

According to my research, you would need a new buffer, possibly a new trigger group if you have a notched hammer.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why instead of using magwell blocks and Colt mags, someone doesn't just make a mag with standard size external dimensions/mag catch slot and 9mm follower/feed lips.

I might sell an ar or two and get an angstad from wolverine

Mike, I usually value your posts (particularly when you remind people of guns which blow up G:) but your posts about the Angstad are not remotely relevant to the topic at hand: building a 9mm AR. I'm asking about modifying a Dodge Ram and you're talking about buying a F-150.

My LGS has the High Standard 10.5" 9mm AR upper with magwell insert.
Anyone have any knowledge on how these are?
Around $1000 for the complete upper. No mag included however. Sigh!

The 9mm AR idea really intrigues me.
