HELP! Weird issue with my G19

Is the magazine well worn on your gun to the point that magazines are loose? Pulling the magazine down by hand and it holds firm is one thing, but can you move the magazine to the side (away from the catch) and down? After 25 years of magazine changes the gun itself worn?
I agree, the stovepipe is no doubt a result of the magazine falling from the frame while firing.

Good thought plinker! Got the mags and gun out to test your theory. Tugged and pulled and shifted and twisted the mags in the well. The mags do move a little bit! It's a Glock afterall! But they still do not fall out or get pulled out. I also tried it on my G22. The lateral movement is fairly similar so I think the magwell is still within specs.
I use G17 mags as my reload mags as they are longer for a easier grip during reloads so they wiggle a hair more in the shorter grip of the G19 anyways.

Have you tried all this without the slide on the frame? And maybe some ammo in the mags? Our "12x G19" friends is probably hinting that the ammo is the problem, but stove pipes don't cause magazines to drop, dropping magazines cause stovepipes...

Danke gunzik!
I will use the factory ammo baseline first. If they have issues again, I will look into getting a new mag release and springs. I just looked at the magwell under light and it's surprisingly smooth, like new, with no distortions or bulges.
And believe me, when your mag falls out , you'll notice!! LOL!
I frequently see mags fall out during rifle and pistol matches and it's always the first shot when the shooter did not insert the full mag firm enough but not usually in the middle of a string.

Sell it and get a PPQ like your waaaaaaay smarter and better looking friend!

Ok, PE! You've seen this happen at the last IDPA shoot. Do you recall the cheapo reload brand I was using?
And I can't give up on 19! It's older than my kids! Besides, I would take a certain 17 with a Ghost trigger over the Q anytime! The pinocchio barrel doesn't quite do it!cou:

Let's give it an overhaul... it's a G2 and thanks to the intervention of your friends it's seen more rounds in the last 24 months than the prior 24 years!

We'll pop in a new ejector, extractor and springs and see if it keeps up with the ghost in the machine!

Any way you can apply enough pressure to the grip that it flexes the frame enough to release the mag?

I'm running out of ideas and that means I'm going back to 12 inches behind the gun. :p

Nothing!
It ain't 12 inches behind the gun. I shoot modified isosceles. About 2 feet!.

Does my grip meet your approval?

And this is the result of my grip: Notice the lower groups call for strong and support hand one handed shooting.

Nice shooting. Right hand looks tight but can't argue with your results ;)

Seriously though, mags aren't coming out by themselves. Has to do with the release, somehow.

Long ago when I had the full capacity magazines...they were so easy to load.

Later, when converted to 10 rounds, with a follower travel limiting piece cemented into the mag body, loading 10 rounds was so easy, as the spring had room for 15 or 17 (depending on which Glock it was).
But the new factory magazines, with that white plastic block in them, mean you have to use the loading tool to force that 10th round in against very tight pressure. You literally have to force it and have to use the tool.

That wasn't in the original design. That was a legal compromise.

When you slam that full 10 round mag up in there, against that kind of pressure, you're probably not making the mag release very happy. I'd swap that mag release out for starters.

Also, those G17 mags you're using for mag changes...the bottom of the mag isn't in the frame as the G19 mag would be, right? I don't have them to look at now but would that be a bit less stable at the bottom?

To each their own. Why do some people own crates of SKSs? Or 10 1911s?

People own crates of SKS's so they're ready for the zombie apocalypse, silly...and a variety of 1911s in both stainless and blued, commander and full length, with different grips like cocobolo and zebra wood and ivory...ensure that a gentleman will always be able to bring a different and interesting sidearm to the club. So, that being answered, why buy more than one black plastic boxy generic mass produced pistol of any make? Well, perhaps those that have trouble sleeping can look at their collection encompassing 12 identical plastic pistols and nod off in style? ;-)

Just to let you know, the first time it happened you were shooting Wartek reloads Still Alive, 124g, sorry to hear this is stil happening, I have no advice for you other than that, lol, hope you can figure it out buddy, must be driving you crazy!

Yes, the G17 mag does stick out. As mentioned in my previous posts, I tried everything to make them drop and they don't. And I remember the good old days too with the full cap mags!
The mag drops mid round, not at the beginning so I know it's not a seating issue. I always bang them in hard when the slide is closed. And do a press check. I do the same with LAR mags for the AR.

thanks edgy! I was trying to remember the type of ammo! At least I get to practice the drills we were talking about! Except the mag falling out part! LOL! I'm going to try a new gun for IDPA so hopefully no issues with that.

My first thought would be wondering if the mag release is worn internally and is sometimes dropping the mag. And if the extractor is at all loose and the mag has dropped, the empty round could fall off the extractor and stay in the breech area ......

Swapping out the extractor/ejector/mag release would be a cheap and easy trouble shooting step. And running factory ammo for testing.....

I am leaning towards the mag release and spring as the issue. The extractor and ejector are solid. Funny that I cannot make it drop if I tried and it falls out on its own though!

I really like them, and wanted to see the difference between G1, G2, G3, G4 ... I have a 12(6) so I have both prohibited and restricted pistols. The factory barrel seems to make a difference. Just a quasi-scientific study, though to be statistically accurate 19 times out of 20 I would probably need 400 more of them. Or 400 more of each version? So no need to be statistically accurate.

I was also experimenting with different sights, and still have several types I haven't even installed yet. I'm pretty sure I prefer the factory sights, but if you don't have your three or four favorites to try side-by-side, on the same day, how will you know for sure?

There are many interesting pistols. I haven't let my affection for the Glock 19 keep me from any of them, don't worry. I just don't want to run out...

That is, without a doubt, the best damn answer I could have hoped for!

good on ya man! I'd love to be there on one of them range days with all the different Glock configurations to test out! ... But then if have to buy another Glock at the end of the day... Hmmmm :)
