Championship (match 7A and 7B)
Match 7A will try to be people that are close to the Base.
7B will be for people who have to travel further. It will also be the day we hold the BBQ (if you want one) and the presentations.
There will be 60 spots on each championship match day.

Is the "Tenative" April 3rd date accurate given that is a Sunday? All the other regular match dates seem to map out to be Saturdays so I just thought I would double check.

Cause I'm a planner this year, lol..

Now to budget for how many rounds I need hahaha!

I just received this email from the CQB Match Director

CQB Shooters,
Some very bad news:

Effective immediately, the ORA has a new guest policy in place.

Only ORA members can participate in ORA:
-competitions (matches)
-clinics
-courses
What this means, no guests (non members) allowed at any of the above.

A first time guest is invited to participate in a practice day once, then an ORA membership must be taken out.
Your first time guest fee can be applied to your membership.
This directive came down from the DCRA, our national body due to the type of insurance coverage.
All the above was not open for debate.
I fear for what this means for new people getting into the sport, and the shooters that only come out once in a while.

For CQBm3 I will contact the folks that have registered as guests, but they will not be able to participate unless they become ORA members.

I was looking at participating in 2 CQB matches in Borden. I was willing to pay the $30 on top of the $20 match fee. Now if I want to participate it is $150 plus entry fees. I won't be spending that amount of money to see if this is something I want to do.

Sorry ORA. I won't be joining.

That sucks to hear. I don't agree with the new policy wither but apparently it is from high up and not much we can do. Don't forget the membership gives you other things such as practice shoots for other disciplines and access to those competitions.

Sherlock. I don't have any interest in shooting over 800m. I've done enough 'run downs', and am not interested in service rifle. I don't see myself buying a specialty rifle. The other disciplines don't interest me.

As I looked at the CQB shoot dates, I was only free for 2 of the 7. It didn't make sense to pay for a full membership when I could be a guest for a little more the 1/3rd the cost.

I just don't see the value of membership.

^^ This is what myself and some others I know are struggling with right now. Love CQB; absolutely love it. But I will have to shoot at least four matches to make the membership worth it. I just can't commit to that right now.

Damn shame as this may just put a lot of people out of the game

My 2¢
Shoot straight - chrisco

This is what I am starting to fear. I shoot more that one discipline and event so I already paid.

My situation as well...last year I managed 2 matches...this year I was hopeful for 4 but with three kids and all their activities, life tends to get in the way. That's why I liked the pay as you go option. I guess there's occasional outlaw matches and the annual pilgrimage to Petawawa to scratch the CQB itch. It's a shame...CQB was becoming my favourite discipline.

I too was hoping to attend 1 or 2 CQB shoots this year as time permitted but this change in policy is going to eliminate that as an option. I was introduced to CQB last year and attended twice. Really enjoyed the experience...it's a shame really since I was hoping to get some new folks involved.

Ditto. Too bad the lawyers ruin all the fun. I enjoyed my 2 CQB events last year and wanted to attend again this yesr. Thanks for you kindness to us newbies previously. Shoot safe.

Folks,
I've gotten many PMs and email on the matter. Please note I'm just the barer of the bad news, its not my rule. STOP trying to shoot the messenger, I know some of you are proficient marksman ;)
Please contact the ORA and express your thoughts on the subject. email address and contact at http://www.ontariorifleassociation.ca/contact

Thanks,
DINK

And again, sorry to be the one to have to tell everyone the bad news

Agree, email the ORA with comments explaining how this rule change is stifling growth and prevents casual participation. Ultimately the ORA and DCRA are missing out on participation, revenue and making themselves irrelevant to the Canadian sport shooting community.

At the same time support of an organization that I putting on shooting events should be considered a positive, so make a membership work for yourself if you can at all.
