I have a 22" Rem 700 Classic takeoff barrel in 6.5x55 and other than the obvious action to mate it to a Rem 700,what else with more class would fit? I was thinking a small ring mauser 98 if I can find one? Will need an action that is smaller or the same thread size as the 700.I like the mausers CRF but would prefer a 98 over a 96 in case I load it a little warmer.........closer to it's potential.Thoughts.............? The Husky 1600's are kinda oddball for parts.......Harold

or a lot of money ... I think a Farley action will take a Remington barrel (without mods) ... although there were some old reports of bolt lugs falling off the Farley actions .... maybe just stick to a 700 action ?

Nothing says class like a Remington marked barrel fitted to a different brand action...
Class is how you carry yourself when being insulted,when you should be rude back ,but instead take the high road because you're raised to treat people with respect. At least until they have shown themselves to be unworthy of that .I have many more expensive higher end collectables but choose to make a mauser sporter in a cailber with a mint barrel I have.....as you were........ you are....Harold

It simply struck me as odd, that you feel the Remington actions have no class, but you were cool with using their barrels. (Again, in my opinion) When a guy starts mix matching factory parts between brands, class of the finished product kinda goes out the window. It's sometimes easy to spend more trying to make some parts you have work rather than just selling what you have and buying what you need.

Remington 700's are modern and still are being made ...so nothing special....available at any gunstore or show.By class referring to guns in my terms would be unique,Old World quality +historically correct Mannlicher Schoenauer ,Westley Richards,BRNO /various mausers sporters.......Lee Speeds etc] in calibers that have made their mark and are proven game getters.Guns that point +fit naturally without contorting.Pre 64 Winchesters model 70's and the old levers.These days after a nasty separation ,years of disrespect, I am a little short on funds for proper builds and overly sensitive to perceived criticism.I am a product of my environment.....no excuse though .I apologize for snapping at you......I usually have better self control..........Harold

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I like the beautifully slick smoothness of a Krag-Jorgensen bolt action. Too bad so many of the otherwise-decent ones in 6.5mm Swede all too often have sewer-pipe bores...hmmmm?
Probably a lot less work re-barrelling a Krag in a more common calibre like 6.5mm Swede, rather than wildcatting your way into a 6.5/.303 on a Lee Speed action. Both could look 'old-world' classy, IMO, though.
It can be done on the older Sako actions, for sure, I have done a couple.........L61Rs and the AII-AV. I don't recall if the Sako was identical or the threads were .050 smaller, or maybe it was the Winchester that was .050 smaller. I know for sure these 2 actions will work though.
IMHO you have answered your own question. I have seen Martini actions modified to take rimless rounds successfully and even a couple of SMLE actions done similarly. Kind of a waste though for such a strong bbl. The Martini would likely stand up to its potential though. A buggered Mexican small ring action would work as well.
I have a 6mm Remington barrel made by Remington on a Swede Mauser action I picked up at a gun show about a dozen years ago. I keep the pressures in the 50,000 psi range and so far not a sign of stretching or set back after a few hundred rounds. Very accurate rifle. One thing you wouldn't like is that I installed a kit for #### on opening/Timney trigger and a low swing safety to clear the scope. It also sits in a modified fiberglass stock made by Brown Precision many moons ago.
I was going to install a double set trigger on it but opted to put that on a 338-08 I made up before the 338 Federal came into being.
Controlled round feed has its merits but in all honesty I have never had a feed issue with push feed rifles that wasn't my own fault.
As for lack of control, at least you have the good sense to realize and apologize for the reaction. That's classy.
