Anyone else ever have a problem with their magazine? I bought a Savage Axis chambered in 30-06 from the EE a few weeks back, and finally had a chance to take it to the range this past weekend. Groupings were ok, but the magazine would fall out after every shot. Has anyone else had this happen? It was engaged properly and chambers a round, but once fired, the mag falls right out.

You must have got one of the new Liberal approved versions

I'm sure if they had their way, it would shoot Nerf darts, but then that might be too offensive for the children. So we'd all have to start wearing hockey helmets.

I was going to try new Mag. If that doesn't work, maybe I can custom make something that's more robust than the plastic tab that it comes with.

I have had a bit of trouble with mine, When it's not seated properly.

You have to put the rear in first and then the front kind of rolls in till it clicks.

The magazine retention of the Axis leaves something to be desired, but if you purchase a firearm based on the lowest possible price, don't be surprised if a hiccup occurs now and then. That said, it should be pointed out that, for some reason, most of the folks buying them seem satisfied. It might not be appealing to look at, but a strip of duct tape will hold the magazine in place under recoil.

I believe most of the issue is with the rear "hook" not angled outward enough but DO NOT try to pry it, it is very brittle. Go to savageshooters dot com for good info on Savage firearms.

Some of the old Voere Titans had the same auto-eject feature and they were not an inexpensive rifle. Buddy's solution was duct tape. Looked real nice on a fine Euorpean sporting arm... :)

Sorry.... try a different mag as edzzed suggested. Maybe some you know can lend you one just to try.

Of the budget guns, the Axis and Ruger American are the most expensive mags ($50+/-) and the cheapest/####tiest made. The Remington 783 are decent and run around $30.
I'd rather have a blind mag then a ####ty detachable one that may fail.

It's true, you get what you pay for. I'd like a Remington 700, maybe for a next hunting rifle.

Never had a problem with mine. The axis and even my 10 need to have the mag seated properly. I realize you said that it was seated right but the back of it must be seated as well. The mag box is the same as the 10 just a different floor plate. I even converted an axis mag by changing the plate to use in my 10.
