"Bootstrap" Prairie M-14 Clinics? UPDATED

Music to my ears!! Glad to hear Rooster. If work permits, and the Tylenol holds out I'm definitely in!!! So who gets Scar270??

And just a teaser for those interested in 'hanging it out' later this summer....

The 1506 is typically reserved for post-harvest fun. KePet, you'd better work on some stiff 175+ loads for the ol' Steyr. Not easy but I have seen it done with .308 & 185 Bergers. I dare ya!

Ooo you have me intrigued. Am i assuming right in thinking stage 2 and 3 are on the man target and 4 is on the stainless plate? Just trying to gauge what kinda distance to expect if i go. Think the 20 practical could do most of em?

Dammit Rooster. I haven't got that much scope with holdover. Gonna have to learn how to twist-em. At that range maybe I better start working on the 7mm RM. Unlike some of you guys I'm not a magician.

Whole new learning curve for an old "redneck". Before last weekend I didn't think I could hit consistently at 800, now thanks to you I have to revise my thinking. But we both know I'm gonna have to try it

Hey, don't ask for freebees - you're not gonna get 'em (but you're on the right track)! We could do this a couple different ways; most of the course as currently laid out is totally doable with iron-sighted M14's and I've been wanting to do just this for some time now. There's a certain 'true rifleman' feel about this kind of shooting, as far as I'm concerned. Naturally, I think anything beyond 600 yards should be reserved for a different discipline.

We could also go the PR route if majority concurs. Either way, participants will only be allowed to use one rifle for the entire course, except the 1506 yard target, which I simply throw up as a bonus / exhibition stage.

As stated earlier, post-harvest (late September / early October) is the best time to shoot to 1506, as the standing crop obscures the target & we certainly won't see any splash. If you guys want an earlier shoot, we'll eliminate that one and probably stage 5, as this set is affectied similarly to the bonus stage.

I'll see what I can muster as far as my foreseeable available time. In the meantime, you guys let me know your preferences.

If you ever have just some long distance shooting free for all I'd be in if the dates work, want to start shooting out further than the 200 yards my range has, I have a steel gong coming but lack any personal instruction from someone with experience. Was very tempted to attend the M-14 clinic just to learn something, but as I'm not into that platform and even though was offered a loaner decided I didn't want to take away from what the weekends main intent was for.

I think you might misunderstand what the weekend's main intent was. The real intent other than fixing, tuning, and shooting with great guys, is to also develop interest in this platform and knowledge / proficiency with it. Shame you didn't come - we covered a lot of ground with several disciplines. Next time, buddy. :d

We will be having a long range shoot or two this summer / fall as well and can definitely teach you some stuff. No level of experience will be discouraged from attending. Stay tuned...

I'll be watching for it.

The real intent of the weekend was FUN!! Meeting some like-minded people. There was a lot of learning to be had, both on the M-305, but also on precision shooting. I personally went to learn about the M-305, and try to fill in some areas of ignorance that I had. And I did. But I also learned a lot about precision shooting from the guys there.
