I just got my new to me CZ sp01 shadow. It has a polymer guide rod. I also just got a SS guide rod and a 13 lb main /firing spring.

I found the SS rod to be a much tighter fit, is this normal?

And what is the benefit of a SS rod over polymer?

Thanks

I got a SS guide rod for my CZ97B - I despise plastic bits, particularly on a gun's internals. I'm reasonably sure that the plastic rod would function okay - for a while ? - but I couldn't get past the aesthetics of it. The SS rod will outlast the plastic one - and the slide may function a bit smoother ? It kinda' feels like it, but that could just be me, blowing sunshine up my own orifice. It definitely should not be tight - there should be no resistance or binding at all. It is of course, a much more precise fit than the plastic one.

The spring may be tight at the very end, where it seats against the back end of the guide rod - but there should be no binding on the guide rod, through the rest of its length. I put a thin film of "Molyslip" grease on the guide rod, so there is a bit of lubricant between the spring and the rod.

I've put thousands of rounds out of an SP01 with polymer guide rod... Never an issue.

Although I always liked the idea of a SS, my one concern about swapping over to a SS guide rod is increased wear on the "hole under the barrel" whatever thT hole is called that the guide rod rides in. Metal on metal will wear, the plastic would not affect the metal. I feel they came with plastic for a reason... Not to cut costs

Just my 2 cents
