Okay, so this thread is about cheaper optics. The sub 650 mark. But I'm more interested in which of these is the most reliable. Which holds zero the best, potentially last the longest and least likely to have issues out of the box. I'm really not worried about glass quality if the scope is rock solid reliable.

So there it is guys, let's hear it. And some of your experiences

Cheers!

Ps: it'll be going on a 700 in .308

I'd still go for a used Leupold. A VX3 2.5-8x on the used market will easily fit in that price range, has a lifetime warranty (so long as you don't buy one not imported by Korth but Korth will check the serial number for you)and will be a better scope than a new cheaper model.

I agree with the leupold for a hunting scope . For a target or long range the Bushnell 10x surprised me nicely repeatable turrets so did the hawke 6-24 sidewinder used it for two years on a 7mm out to 800 yards not bad glass either . Weaver superslam if you could find one . But leupold and Bushnell have the warranty

Great info here guys thank you.

Anyone have experience with vortex diamondback? I was looking at one today beside a viper. Viper had 30mm tube but the quality looked about the same.

Are diamondbacks know to hold zero and maintain reliability?

I have a Diamondback rimfire model. It holds zero and has proven to be reliable in standard hunting/plinking applications (on a .22lr that is).

The turret adjustments are not repeatable and the parallax is horrible though. I can't say I recommend it.

My experience as well. I still have one in the safe next to a Mark 4 Leupold and a couple of Nightforce NXS. Not the same level, but the Bushnell gives a damn good account for the $250 I paid used.

I have a Viper HS 4-16x50 that, for whag I paid, has made me quite happy. It's at the top of your budget, but close. I also have a couple of diamond backs on smaller calibre rifles that I am happy with, just not sure how they would act on a bigger rifle.

best of the worst? $650?? little pricey for the worst I'd say... I'm glad to hear even the bottom of the line expensive stuff is still apparently crap.
