So I finally took the plunge last night and ordered a pistol carbine, a NR length 9mm CX4. (Thanks Al Flaharty's for the deal). I'm now thinking about a red dot. Can anyone give any advice on how high the mount needs to be to clear those plastic humps moulded in on either side of the iron sights?..... (or at least high enough for 1/3 co witness). I was looking at a Vortex Strikefire II that is 40mm above the bore axis....would that be enough?

I like the look of the CX4 generally and it gets good reviews but the sight arrangements are a negative in my opinion.

pick up any sight you want, the sight post and aperture of the CX4 folds down, and really with both eyes open you don't even really see it.

I prefer the iron sights on my CX4, but I also mounted a Holosun which worked out nicely.

Bushnell TRS-25 works well on mine, it will co witness with the iron sights if needed. With the folding sights any red dot will work well.

I've used my Aimpoint Pro with the spacer removed from the mount, so it sits as low as it can. Worked awesome.
I currently have my Eotech on it, it's more of a chin weld because the Eotech sits higher, but still works great.
I would think a mini red dot, like an H1 or TRS25 would be really ideal. The iron sights don't get in the way because they fold down.
