That would be the route I would go. There's enough plastic/matte guns out there already.I think I will go more original rebuild than custom rifle.
I have the exact rifle and it is a sharp shooter. Agreed that it is not a looker but it's accurate enough to bet on.
This is a 660 I did the few alterations I mentioned earlier - although none are major, it changes the appearance quite a bit in my opinion.

Damn double gun, that is excellent work ! Never liked the safety knobs on my 600's either. Fluting looks fantastic. You're gonna make me spend more money on my 600's when I thought they were done !
