Budget mountain rifle

Most places have the Tikks T3 on clearance now with the newer model T3X coming out. I have seen them as cheap as $$600. I to shoot a T3 in 30-06 and love it

don't be overly concerned with rifle weight, anything in the 7-7 1/2lb range it perfectly suitable. More important is something that fits you well and are comfortable with. More important is the hunter be fit.

I have owned two...... Rally nice rifles, but nowhere near as light as a kimber or the like.....
I agree Superbrad, I own a couple kimbers, one of them is a mountain ascent. The OP is looking for a budget mountain rifle and kimber isn't in that category. I believe the rem mountain rifle is lighter than a T3 or the browning the op is looking at.

Fair statement Pete...... And "budget" and "mountain rifle" is certainly a challenge........ If only I could get a Ruger down to mountain rifle specs I would be a happy boy...... Lol...... Mauser based actions never lend themselves to being light.......

Those ruger's are nice rifle's. From reading your posts I know you have a nice collection of them.

Lol...... Thanks for the kind words Pete....... I went through my own form of midlife crisis...... When I hit 40, my desires turned away from a collection of over 30 guns to a collection of less, but better quality guns in a good selection of cartridges in a rifle platform I enjoy....... And to gather lots of experiences with the rifles........ And shotguns for that matter......

He who dies with the most toys only wins if they actually use them......

That being said, if anyone knows a good looking single redhead that isn't bat#### crazy, I am still down for that....... But that is rarer than the m77 in .358 I am looking for..... Lol

Not a mountain rifle as I hunt in Ontario but I do appreciate lightweight. I put this together with a new T3 Compact 308(20" barrel), picked up a new McMillan Edge on the EE for $650 and a new VX-3 1.75-6x32 for $500 last fall. All told, I have around $1800 into it and it weighs 6 3/4lbs with one in the chamber and a full mag.

Really happy with it, lucked out on the stock and anxious to whack some critters with it :)

I find that very interesting as the Tikka I'm looking at is almost twice the price. I know they have the smoothest bolt i've ever played with. My brother has a standard t3 in 7 mag, and I don't find that recoils too bad

Edit: missed the "quote" button. In response to prairie lover

They're bolts aren't smooth. They just have a sloppy fit. Still they're one of the better guns in that price range but they're not even close to what is considered smooth.

The Tikka is by far the best option of your list. I was all excited to buy an A bolt 3 I saw on clearance. All I can say is....Junk! Not even close to the quality of the abolt 1 or 2. Sloppy but rough bolt.... just rough finish all the way around. I've had 10 or more A bolts, but will not put a cent of my money to an ab3.

The Tikkas are very nice rifles, and all that I have owned or been around are all shooters.

My stainless T3 Lite in 270Win landed here tonight. Bare gun weighs a tad over 6lbs. That's light enough for an out of the box mountain rifle.

I am topping it with a VXIII 2.5-8 B&C or a VXII 3-9 LR in Talley LWs.

an abolt micro with a Leupold 3-9 light weight scope in Talley rings comes in at 7 lbs. just wait for a used one on the ee. i think that is your lowest cost option.
