I am new to the whole shooting sport.....background military, have hunted for a few years, want to try 3 gun tactical shooting.....know absolutely nothing about it, how to get started, where to go, who to talk to, equipment needed, live by Lake Erie in Southern Ontario.......need help and information....

If you don't mind driving to Cambridge you are more than welcome to come and check out any of our 3gun matches/practices - they are held on the second Saturday of each month from 9am-1pm. You'll get a chance to see a variety of gear and guns and see first hand how some of the stages are set up and shot. We are a friendly bunch that would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Email me at galt3gun@rogers.com if you'd like more info.

Is this open to guests ?

How are they not related?
Safe handling, range commands, for starters are totally related.
I wish there could be a BB for three gun given some of the stuff I have seen.

To the OP - There are essentially three types of three gun, "outlaw" which is as it suggests, local club makes up the rules most are safe, but some do do some strange things. USPSA and 3 Gun Nation, both are almost the same. Take the time to read up on the rules and be aware that there is no "standard" for 3 Gun. I would pick a club that follows 3 Gun nation rules or USPSA.

IPSC Black Badge course to start shooting 3 Gun?
I don't think so!!
The two are not related.

Welcome to the club 2Commando!!!
1. Find a suitable 3 gun league in your area, you can find them in this forum
2. If you have a pistol, shotgun and rifle, don't worry too much about having the best of everything
3. At your first match inform the RO this is your first match, the RO and the Assistant RO will give you directions and your squad will give you a hand. Just about everyone in our sport will welcome you and give you pointers. Even though we're competing against each other, their is a huge comradery in this sport!!!

Agree, then you can compete in anything. Always good to have. Worth the time and effort. If you want to practice from a holster at most clubs, you'll need it for that as well.

Highly recommend the Black Badge course as well. Once you have it you can shoot IPSC pistol, rifle and shotgun matches. All of which will give you loads of experience for 3 Gun.

Like you I started off wanting to get into 3 Gun. Went the BLack Badge/IPSC route and now am totally hooked on IPSC.

Welcome to 3 gun.
The action shooting competition forum here has a ton of info. You could spend many many hours reading through peoples inquiries into 3 gun.

Like others have suggested here, the easiest way to learn is to go to your nearest club that shoots 3 gun and check it out.
Most 3 gunners are very friendly and willing to chat up their gear, and knowledge on the subject. Plus, after a match, many will let you check out their gear.
The other thing that I would recommend is reading the rule book for 3 gun at the club at which you are going to compete/shoot at.
The rule book will cover, the rules of the game, safety requirements, gear and gun requirements and general information about the sport at that club.

also, check out the following thread, it has a ton of great info from a variety of experienced 3 gunners and will possibly answer some your questions.

Lastly, as we all here love to talk guns and gear and 3 gun, if you have specific questions....ask. You are bound to get lots of replies from guys/gals who've played the game for years.

cheers
