"Like New" Yugo M48 Mausers?

As an aside, I was in Gunco in Ottawa today and they had 4 remaining of these rifles from Tradex still in stock, if anyone is in Ottawa, wants one, and doesn't mind picking through sticky cosmolene-covered rifles, have at 'er. Gunco is a stocking Tradex dealer.

I think they were a little cheaper than most dealers at $560 per copy vs. $585+ elsewhere.

No, the Tradex import did not have import marks. The Zastava marked guns at some dealers are from a different import and generally are missing sight hoods and cleaning rods, are usually not in as excellent a condition, are sometimes mis-matched, and are not gooped in cosmolene. Usually close to the same price as the Tradex guns as well, often $500+ for the import marked ones.

If you can find a Tradex import, it's a much better "deal". you get all the parts, no import marks, nice bores, matching numbers, and a sling and ammo pouch set.

I figured. I was just curious. I am a sucker for digging through a pile of surps and finding "the one" that talks to you. They were discreetly marked as well, I almost didn't notice it.

Even that would be unusual. Mot rifles are assembly numbered only on the bolt, barrel and receiver. I'd definitely love to see yours with more assembly numbers than that, once you can take some pics.

You're welcome to come and see it when you're in Edmonton. I've personally been down this argument several times and its long lost it luster to prove someone to be wrong or indifferent.

Some people denigrate the Yugo M48 series, and perhaps that warranted in some cases, but all the ones I've owned have been great rifles with nice bores, smooth matching bolts and decent stock fit. Some of the sloppier referred versions can have happy stocks and poor fit, but it's easy to avoid those ones.

My examples have been every bit as reliable as a K98k, but in better shape, shorter bolt throw, and often in better condition. I don't mind shooting a pristine M48 a bunch, not so with a Pristine K98k ;)

I have no interest in arguing with you. I'm taking your word for it that you have an unusual rifle that is more thoroughly assembly stamped than many other examples. I doubt I'm the only one who would like to see pictures.

I'm in Ontario, a special trip to Edmonton is unlikely.

They do look like pretty nice examples, not likely to be seen again for a while, or ever again.
I'm the odd man out when it comes to military Mausers for shooting, never liked the sights with the exception of the American made ones...I just can't get consistent with the V/∆ sights. Give me apetures and posts and I'm a happy shooter. I was going to bite on one of these, but then i remember all the Turk, and Swede, and Yugo etc mausers I've owned and sold...

LOL - you need an FR8!

On Swedes, other than the '94 carbine, the sights are much more U/I

Last one is assembly no. 361 with dot again, all matching assembly #'s, bolt, receiver and barrel.

Bore is flawless mint shape.

Mine is the same, all matching, near perfect. Once I sweated out the cosmo from the stock, there are some blemishes. Even if it wasn't issued or shot (unsure if that's the case), it still got a few dings during storage and handling. I'm not one to try to lift dings up in the stock or sand any faults out, would rather leave it as is - which is what I did. In the process of oiling the stock now and will reassemble when it's all done.

Getting seller's remorse as I sold my shooter grade (actually really nice shape) M48 on the EE without even shooting it... to make room for this nicer one. Oh well, can't keep everything.

Sold this one:

Yep, same guns he posted a few days ago. He BTT'd his post and concurrently raised prices by minimum $50.

Tradex is sold out, and Weimarjack sold the first couple batches he posted the same day they were put on sale. These ones on the EE are his last ones and I guess he figures he can pad his profit margin.

The only nice Yugos from this batch are in stocking dealer inventories here and there, like Weimarjack's inventory in the EE. There are also some that I know of at Gunco in Ottawa (charging $560 ea) and at P&S Militaria in Sherbrooke ($595 ea).

Then there are the import marked guns that other dealers have, usually not as nice condition, usually missing cleaning rods and sight hoods, ugly Zastava import mark on receiver.

These ones are going for $525-$550 at sponsors so this most likely is why he's raising his prices. He'll probably sell them all too. I see one is sold at $695.

I asked SFRC if they could look through a couple to pick out a nice one for me and I was told NO. This was before the nice #'s matching ones came out.

I asked Wolverine about them and the dude took pictures of them and posted them in his section. Weren't anything special, shooter grade rifles.

The don't come in crates, they come naked in a cardboard box. There is no accessories in with the rifles.

We only have three in stock, so I opened them up this morning to appease those looking for the gem in the rough.
Two of the rifles we have I would rate as good. The third one would be fair.

Two have matching serial numbers on bolt and action, not stock (I didn't check barrel bands etc nor am I going to).
The stocks on two of the guns have cartouches etc and rack stampings and are in decent shape. One of those pair has a shaved spot on the fore wood to
allow the barrel band to slide for dis-assembly.
The third rifle the stock is a replacement, no markings, rough finish with a chunk cut out of the fore wood. Bluing on that one is worn and weak, no matching
serial numbers.

Once again there are no accessories, the boxes come as empty as a mother in law's heart. I didn't swab out the bores but from a visual examination the bores on all three
looked good and sharp.

I've included a bunch of pictures.

So to summarize, I'm very happy with what I received for $595.
