Why Are There No Good 5-Inch Blued Revolvers?!

JohnnyMac, did MC convert it to a round butt frame at the same time or is it a later model that came that way?

Murray did the conversion (and a pretty good job at that):

I really like what he did with that JM! I have a couple Model 66s, I may just think about having one done up like that as well! As for short barrelled blue guns, I do have a 5" Model 10, and Model 27-2. Great handling. I also have a 27-2 nickel that might be nice to do up like yours JM, there is a thought....that would be a sweet set up!

I bought what I thought was a 25-2 with intentions of setting it up like this 19, when it showed up it turned out to be a 4 screw model 25 no dash in great shape and I couldn't bring myself to have it modified. Maybe I'll find a beater but I'd really like a 45acp set up like this.

Like I said, I really like my 586. If I wanted a shorter barrell I would send it to Murray Carlton to customize it. I love full underlugs...That migt be a route for you: buy a brand new 586 and send it to Murray. It will be a bit of a pricy journey but you'll get quite a quality piece and just what you want. If you decide to do that, give a call to Murray before just to be sure it is doable.

I guess you better not modify that one! Holy hell man, if you ever decide to sell I want dibs!

Funny I couldn't modify it but sold it thinking I'd buy another and still never found a 25-2. I did however find a pre-25 5 screw!

I'm not letting go of this one. In fact I found a nice set of cokes for it.

Hi

If a person looks hard there are quite a few blued 5 inch revolvers out there but you have to look for them.

Here are few to look at.

1st a Model 10 in 38 special with a 5 inch barrel

Number 2 is a 38-44 Heavy duty with a 5 inch barrel in 38 special

Number 3 is a 586 with a 4.2 inch barrel (factory) in 357 mag.

Number 4 is a Model 27 with a 5 inch barrel in 357 Mag

Number 6 is Model 544 with a 5 inch barrel in 44-40 caliber

Number 6 is a model 29 with a 5 inch barrel in 44 mag.

Number 7 is a model 25 with a 5 inch barrel in 45 Colt.

There is a few to look at, I have others as well as stainless models but the thread is about blued guns and not stainless models.

Those are some very nice wheelguns you have there! That 27 looks a lot like one I used to have:

wow, that Wesson 15-2 platform is very nifty!

what does one of those in .357 run and where can you buy the replacement barrels? :yingyang:

They come up for sale from time to time here on the EE. Their prices are really starting to jump - some of the longer (10" plus) barrels/shrouds are selling for big dollars in the States. If you find one with at least an 6" barrel and a 8", I would jump on it. You can also import barrels from the States if need be.

Anyone know where I guy can pick up a lightly used Model 10 5". Dealer or private sell.

Take Care

Bob

I've got one (Model 10-5) that is a 9.9/10....but pretty sure you don't want to pay what it would take to pry it from my safe! Here it is with my 5" 27-2 (and yes I have original target grips, but these suit me better for shooting). Not a great pic, but it is raining outside still and lighting is for crap.
