I'm shopping for an extra barrel for my mossberg 500, I'm looking at the shorter mid length barrels since I have a 28" with screw in chokes and a 18.5 " cyl barrel already. I want something with screw in chokes but shorter than the 28" . I have a choice between an plain no ported 20" barrel or 24" with ports. I think I would prefer the 24" for an all around turkey/upland/truck gun barrel as it would balance a bit better, but reading up online the main complaint about the porting is it makes the shotgun louder. Does anyone here have experience with the newer ported mossberg barrels? Would the 24" ported barrel be a lot louder than the 20" with normal field loads?? I'm trying to decide on which one but I really don't want my shotgun to be louder than it already is. Which barrel length would you pick for a truck gun for grouse/rabbits etc or maybe turkey?
