Thinking on a decent 1911 for my next pistol - been liking what I've read on some Dan Wesson models in this price range but certainly open to still considering any others at this point. Don't/haven't owned any 1911's so thinking it's time I added one to the collection.

Yup. Anything in the $1500.00 ~ $1800.00 range is gonna be good and real world performance is going to be pretty much the same.

To get a superlative 1911 right out of the box is gonna run you $3500.00 on up and will involve a long wait from the custom gun makers.

Had a Trojan in .45, have since sold it but not because anything wrong with it, it was very nice to hold onto, fibre optic front and rear adjustable were perfecto........ ran perfect. I'm just not a 45 guy. Had a S&W also, but I found the grip safety a little temperamental.
Recommend the Trojan.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it - I should add that another constraint, other than the price point, is will be wanting to use it in IDPA CDP class also.

Well a bit of a left turn, got a killer deal on a local, lightly used, Ruger SR1911 + 900rds ammo + a bunch of extra accessories - all for $800. Too good to pass up! :)

Another vote for the STI trojan (I've had one for a few years now, and love it).

If you can wait till around November (Black Friday), Freedom ventures usually has excellent deals on them (at least the last 2 years they have). Their prices will be basically the lowest you will ever buy them for brand new.
Of course there is no guarantee they will have a sale.

Cheers,
F.
