Any updates on Troy Sporting Rifle (PAR)

Huh, what makes it restricted? I paid shipping and taxes on mine yesterday and nothing was said about it being restricted! I don't want it if restricted!

I would call them and discuss it. According to my discussion with IRG they had just this week sorted out the rebarrelling work around and got it accepted by the RCMP. They were in the process of calling people.

I just ordered yesterday so when it came up on their system they called me shortly there after. I expect they will work through their order list next week.

I am honestly just as happy with an 18in barrel for hunting given more velocity. I am expecting the chamber to be conventional rather than fluted too, so better for reloading.

Sucks that it us being forced by the RCMP though. Guns don't make people dangerous....people make people dangerous.

From the IRG Forum

UPDATE on the 223 and 300 AAC rifles.

As of Monday the RCMP has advised us that the .223 and 300 AAC rifles with the folding stocks are now being reclassified as restricted. Although the RCMP issued NON Restricted FRT numbers for these firearms and the overall length is 26.25” and falls within the guide lines of being NON Restricted it seems that with the removal of the muzzle break the rifle falls short of 660mm. That being said the law refers to the overall length not the overall length after you remove the break. They will not allow us to pin the break and as Troy has done such a wonderful job of integrating the rear folding stock it would be a shame to replace it. Therefore as of today we have no other option other then to re-barrel the rifles. We are currently waiting on new allocations of these rifles, we will replace the 16” with an 18” barrel and moving forward the price will reflect the required changes to keep the NON-Restricted classification. The .223 will be an additional $100.00 and we are still waiting on barrel pricing for the 300 AAC but suspect it will be in the neighborhood of $150.00. We will modify the rifles free of charge and continue to pin the mags for free. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused

Hey RCMP. You guys might as well deem most NR guns restricted because with the removal of one or two screws most stocks will come off measure under 26" OAL and the gun still shoot.

Efin idiots.

The length of a barrel IS defined in the Criminal code: and it says doesn't include any component, part or accessory designed or intended to suppress the muzzle flash or reduce recoil.

##### about the RCMP all you want, the Criminal Code says it in black and white !

Latest from IRG. Good news!

"Special thanks goes out to Bill and everyone at the RCMP for all their help and understanding. We greatly appreciate the extra work and time they put in to re-evaluate the Troy PAR rifles. As of the morning they have advised us that the .223 and 300 AAC rifles with the folding stocks meet the required criteria for NON RESTRICTED status!!! Everyone can breath easy... the rifles will be going out this week."

What is the appeal to having a .223 ar style gun in a pump action format? Not hating just generally curious. I find it a little odd but I must admit, very curious.

AR style controls and ergomics, non-restricted and at a price point much lower than other NR 223/5.56 offerings. Is it a perfect replacement for what most of us really want in a NR AR-15? Nope...but it is something.
For some, having a truck gun is something they desire for hunting/varmint control and just the ability to pop to a gravel pit or crown land and plink a bit for fun without having to go to a "range".

I ordered one in 300 Blk so I can use it for short range deer. I spend most of shooting time behind an AR-15 so having something that mimics this in a NR platform appeals to me.

Easier to use than a bolt in some cases, the only other pump was the Rem 7615 ,no longer made.
Also being AR accessory compatible opens a huge range of options that are quick and easy to assemble vs a traditional hunting. rifle

Well said!I have a 300 BLK coming for the same reasons (got shipment notification a few minutes ago!) and if they perform as well as many of the US reports indicate I will probably get one in 223 at some point as well.

Is there an 'international' version (ie. proprietary magazines) coming to markets outside of the USA?

I was sure there was talk of Troy making a different version for our market or did I just dream that?
