The black bear king of the internet thread.

Google told me it is a tank of water where the temp is kept at 35 Deg Celcius. Ideal for bacteria!

I'm a little less scientific, using the sun, have an aquarium / fish tank heater but haven't plugged it in yet.

That is a real pumpkin head!

I know I've got a big head, no need to call attention to it.

He's still good in body, he was just shy of being an honest 7' bear and would have been heavy in fall. Within two weeks I'll be comfortable rounding him the last smidge to 7'. Even in spring he made two strong guys struggle to get him in the side by side, and made us feel old. He was responsible for irresponsible Advil dosing at the behest of my 6'3 partner's back. Playing it a bit cool for public perception purposes, because a sophomore outfitter can't get too excited about a black bear in public.

Grizzly hunting is also ruining my perception of black bears, my hunting partner was floored as we approached, and my first thought was it wasn't a Grizz. But after a month of hunting black bears more than I'd like to admit, he was the best, and likely the best I'll take personally for a good while. It's a good excuse to drink scotch. I'll brave the maceration stew in time for the 30th deadline to offer up the skull measurement for the vote.

Think Douglas said I don't qualify though  ,

What a noggin, like you said holy head to body ratio! should call him "Beary Bonds".

Omg your description of the black box had me gagging . Years ago, I buried one in my parents garden in the backyard and dug it up a month later. I couldn't see through the tears in my eyes from the gagging and dry heaving. Never again. Boiling is quicker and a lot less stinky.

Congratulations on a great bear, by the way.

You admittedly have to be a man about it. Putrid doesn't quite describe it, and fishing for teeth in it is good fun. Boiling causes shrinkage and while it was my old method, you can end up with damaged fine nasal bones after cleaning and cracked teeth if not careful. Maceration while a bit ripe is far easier and I've learnt likely the best method going for a pristine skull, probably even better than beetles and much less effort involved than maintaining those. I'm going to be pulling it a bit early to post the measurement in time for this thead's close on the 30th, and I'm not overly looking forward to that.

Would greatly appreciate a go pro video of this monumental event..... :)
