What ACTION to use ?

So i got my Bob Jury .416 SS barrel now to build my .416 Taylor - BUT what action should i use ? I have both a Rem M700 and a Weatherby Vangaurd ! Which would you use ? RJ

I vote vanguard, nicer factory trigger if its the series 2 and 3-position safety. Then again I'm not a fan of Remington stuff especially anything newer.

I'd use the Vanguard if it's not a Series 2. If it is, I'd use the 700......providing you can't get a hold of a good Model 70 or a Sako L61R or AV.

Of course if it were a Series 2 one just has to get rid of the two stage trigger and the cheap stamped safety lever. Timney is your friend.

You need to sell those and get a decent pre-64 Model 70. A commercial FN Mauser would be even better. This is if you are wanting a serious rifle.

The .416 Taylor was made for a standard length FN Mauser... an old classic action for a modern classic cartridge.... but of the two actions you mention - the 700 over the Vanguard.

So i dropped it off to the Smith today ! the Vanguard action is the one ! RJ
