Have a sw 586. Blued with wood handles 6 inch Second owner he shot less than 300 I shot less than 50. Few boxes of 357 mag and 38 special to go with. Very good condition. Any opinions on value?

Yeah.... Umm send it my way and I'll have a look at it under a good light and uh...yeah, no you don't wanna keep this.... Let me take it off 'yer hands.... Let's just start up the paper work and we'll make sure this "old paper weight" doesn't cost or bother you anymore.... Yup you're lucky I was gonna charge you to dispose of this, but I just recived my shipment of moon rocks to sell on eBay. Would you like to be the first to buy one of my moon rocks? I know, they smell like cheese? Maybe the moon is made of chees after all.....

Wtf.....i bought it on a whim at a very good price regardless of model or lock or whatever l and know nothing about it. However it's safe where it is until I learn a bit lol

Will the dash be after model 586?if so there is no dash just a model 586. And no hole above the cylinder latch

Red blade front sight. Wood grips with little inlaid gold medallion slightly smaller than dime

Yes, it could be a no dash model. 1980-1986. They did have voluntary recall. If fix was done there should be a star of sorts stamped near the model #, I believe.

I don't see any star. I see what I think is serial then model below that right on the frame. Then on the cylinder pivot arm? I see another 5 digit number and an alpha numeric 3 character

Uuuuuuwhhhat? U mean randomly buying guns from friends and aquunaitance with reckless abandon when they move or their wives flip out has finally paid off???
LOL!
The older S&W have more value as collectors. Older shooters feel the pre-lock action is smoother. Also, IMO, the cylinder catch is nicer looking without the half dished out look of the newer lock models.
I sold mine years ago for $300 but that was early 90s. They resell in the $600-$700 range now depending on condition and lock up.

Lock up is solid as hell. I don't think this thing was ever really used. I know for a fact he had it forever and it never left safe and I shot about 30 rounds. I have handled other revolvers and hard to explain but everything about this one is smooth. Cylinder rotation is silent. Good snap when it locks and no play whatsoever anywhere and it shoots well I'm just more of a rifle guy.

If someone didn't need the cash would it be advisable to keep this one?

The L frames are sized between the K and N frames and designed to handle a steady diet of .357 ammo. That said, they are not a rare gun as they are still being made. You will make a small profit if you got it for the price you stated. Your gun will have value to very specific collectors only. As a shooting gun, most could not care if they are lock or pre-lock models.
If $ no issue, find a S&W 610 and store it away!

I'm not independently wealthy or anything but I don't need to sell this to make the bills. I am doing a couple different ar builds so I figured this would buy me some parts since I haven't had it out of safe in at least 5 years.

If still being made and not rare then I won't feel bad in 10 years about selling it. I definitely got a deal so maybe put the profit to work somewhere else. So maybe 750ish at best or best offer type of price?

Oh I see your opinion on resale value above sorry reading too fast. That's a new barrel and handguard! Thanks for sharing some knowledge

Look on the EE now. I'm sure there's at least a 5/686 on there. Check condition of the gun against yours and you'll know if you're in the ball park for price. If you BTT more than 5 times, you are priced too high! If it sells in 5 mins, probably too low! LOL!
