Any updates on Troy Sporting Rifle (PAR)

haha sorry it was on a forum somewhere, I have been scrounging up all the info I can. There is a fairly small amount of info out there on these. I guess we will find out in a few weeks regardless. Fingers crossed the .308 doesn't have any fluting as well :p

Which is what I believed until now.
 
Well I called Irunguns about my .223 PAR only cycling PMC bronze and not any of the others I tried, he told me that he would call me back later in the day. He calls me back after talking to someone at Troy, and it turns out that the PAR does not function very well with Federal ammo and only use ammo that works in my rifle, which as far as I know is only PMC bronze. He also told me he could do a RMA back to Troy but they would test fire PMC in it and if it functioned properly they would just send it back to me. So I was pretty much told that I would have to live with it and only use PMC bronze which sucks. Also they couldn't do anything about the QD mounts that are out of spec. Not much of a warranty if you ask me. I think I'm going to source a new barrel from Dlask, they might have some left over barrels from the pump action AR's they made several years ago.

So troy would only look at the cycling issue alone, and not the out of spec QD points? Seems like those are both warrant issues that would result in a new rifle, if only the QD mounts were out of spec.

I think your dealer is feeding you a line! What kind of manually operated pump action rifle manufactured in the US is designed to only feed Korean PMC ammo??
 
Yeah I don't know what the deal is, but It's what I was told. I would like to hear from other owners about different ammo being used and the QD mount issue. I do own a Remington 7615p and it will run anything smooth as butter. If you do order a PAR in .223 make sure you buy lots of AR chamber brushes, the fluting causes the chamber to foul up really fast.
 
I read somewhere (I think one of the Canadian suppliers) that steel cased ammo is not recommended. I hope the 300 AAC version is not fluted, as virtually all of the ammo I will providing will be home rolled.

Anyone have any idea how long the deliveries are taking? Are they constant, or each batch at a time?

Can someone who is more eloquent and polite than me write Troy and ask then which models in which calibers have the chamber fluting? I'd do it but....well...I'm kind of a ####.....:redface:
 
From what I read out of the u.s. all of the chambers are fluted and this is to aid in extraction. They also have the warning that nothing but brass cases can be used without causing damage
 
Here's a photo of some of the spent casings from my PAR. The only one that functioned was the PMC bronze on the right. Winchester and IMI are on the left with federal in the middle. You can see that the fluting marks are not as deep on the PMC.

Do you have any way of measuring how deep the fluting is?

Mine too.

Finally took it to the back lot today. Performed well.

Somehow my wife managed to not close the bolt tight and gave one round a light primer strike. I would hope that the gun couldn't fire without in the fully closed position, something I should watch for.
 
I should a our 70 rds in one thus weekend.
It's a cool gun.
Forend sucks the rail covers or whatever they are make the forend so big you can't get a good grip on it
When you pump it fast you hand slips off of it
The fluting o the brass is extremely deap almost 20thou on some cases
Hard extraction on many rounds was needed do to sticky cases. Which made for slower pumping.
Prob 500 rds were shot by others from steel case to pmc to reloads
While the stock and upper/lowere and nice and low profile and light. The forend systems sucks
