Opened up a storage locker i bought today and found a rifle rusting away. Appears to be a Ross chambered in 300 win mag. Picked it up to prove it safe and out popped a live round. Called the previous owner to see if they wanted the rifle or anything else from the locker like photo albums and was told they weren't interested.

The guy was about 90 and a little senile. Poor rifle was sitting there for the past ten years. Going to take a lot of work to get this rifle going.

Are you sure it wasn't chambered in 280 Ross? It's a hell of a big cartridge that looks like some of our more modern magnums. Either way, pics prease when you get a chance.

Barrel is stamped 300 win mag and the rounds I pulled out if it were 300 win mag as well

Pics are required. Should be able to find info on the barrel or cartridge re: chambering. As mentioned above, .280 Ross is a large case.

Sounds like a cool conversion.

If ross sporters are worthless I will happily buy any anyone has around. I want a straight pull hunting rifle/

Quick pic I snapped on the way home

Looks like the stock had some cut off at one time and then a new chunk put on later

Looked like a decent stock at one time

Rust on the barrel. The inside looked dirty but seemed to be ok

I tried to get a picture of the grime. It will take a VERY good cleaning on the entire receiver. It was grimy enough that the bolt wasn't very smooth

You call that grimey?
Your guns must all be mint!
Looks like a beautiful gun with some elbow grease.

The picture doesn't do the grime justice. We are talking black grease or more like tar in every part of the action. Working the bolt means slamming it with your hand or using a rubber mallet.
