Landowners near Calgary with rabbit problems *Update July 13th

Hi,

I have been looking for a way to fill the freezer with some rabbits since last fall. My parents used to farm a bunch every year out in Ontario but have since moved to other livestock and poultry instead.

I spent a lot of time last fall and this spring in the areas that I hunt deer with no luck finding rabbits during daylight hours.

I'm hoping someone here might know of a landowner near Calgary who has "city" like populations on their land and wouldn't mind me harvesting a few. Happy to use a 22, a pellet gun, or a bow if the landowner has a preference.

It's a real shot in the dark but thought it was worth a try.

Sorry OP, when you turn your light on, you're see see a whole bunch of replies and think there are tons of places to go! Oh well, how to cook the rabbit is a good thing to know, too!;)

if you're looking for bush rabbits try some crown land especially forested areas. You shouldn't have issues finding what you want.
 
Rabbits in my experience are more of a hit and miss here than in Ontario. Even at the high point of their cycle, never seem to be as many. Saw a good population near the summit of Limestone mountain last fall would you believe. Crown land, no permission needed. ;)

I've done stove top stews and slow cooker as well. Honestly, usually marinate quarters in the days choice of BBQ sauce in the morning and BBQ them for dinner. Some mashed on the side. Perfect and simple.
 
There are lots of the big prairie jacks around Lloyd this year. Darndest thing, coyote numbers drop off the charts and everything starts coming back around the acreage including mulies. A mild winter & low coyote numbers sure helps alot of critters to bounce back. Had over 50 Huns wintering next door too!!
