Hi,

I'd like to know what people are using for hearing protection while hunting? I usually only use conventional hearing protection at the range but these aren't of much help when it comes to hunting/locating wild game. I'd like to get a nice set of electronic muffs that are good at amplifying audio with a decent NRR rating (25db+ if possible).

Thanks,

I have Peltors(spelling?) and they hiss a little which is distracting to me. Also the battery changeout is a pain. They turned on too easily by chance so I removed the knobs. Do not recommend. They were about $100 a few years ago. They work well for target shooting but that hiss factor irritates me while in the bush.

Peltor Tactical Sport. No hissing, no knobs. Put gel cups on, and they're pretty much perfect.

If they're not hissing, they must be defective. Once mine went belly up I bought MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X.
They are not cheap but buy once, cry once. You get what you pay for.

Poor HL is now safe queen since the Orange MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X arrived. Gel is so NICE, barely feel them.

As to the low NRR rating they are misleading in that gunshots are not typical noise.

No. I have a few pairs. None of them hiss. These are the expensive ones. I had a cheaper model of Peltors that sucked. These are good. They don't clip either from noise.

Mine were the top of the line police tactical model (they have the plug-in for the tactical radios) from about 5 years ago and at full volume, which I use for hunting, there is a definite background hiss. I got them from a friend who works for one of their larger wholesalers in Canada and they were around $200-300 wholesale back then IIRC.
