What scale to upgrade to

I have a Lee scale, and a Lyman as well, I use the Lyman more often because it seems easier to use, but both have the same accuracy.

Yeah. No complaints here. CM1500 is more then good enough especially when add the brass upgrade.

BUT... I been really playing with the idea of picking up A&D Fx or Sar and adding the automatic powder trickler to it. :) :) :) :)

The never ending reloading money black hole! Heh.

Cheers,

There are some Gempro clones that some say work well if you don't want to pay the bigger bucks.

Thanks for all your replies. I was super happy to drive 2.5 hours and get the M500 at Bass Pro Shop only to return home, open the box and see no inside packaging, no instruction manual, all the parts bouncing around and scratched up.

Lets just say I was furious. They have since offered to pay for me shipping it back to them and them shipping me out an unopened new unit.

I will just be happy when my new unit arrives. I'm hoping it will be the last scale I will ever need.

Learned that a while ago.
Always open the box in store before you leave, especially when you drive a while to get something.
I've had that happen too many times.

Now when I buy a box, I always open it. Sometimes they wont let me before I buy, so I buy, and then open right there, so if there is an issue, they will replace it right away, and they will see it by themselves.

To the OP. You probably already have what you want in the RCBS. They are good. Never owned on but I played with one at a sporting goods store a while back. The Hornady looks about the same. The Lee is super accurate to but I get what you're saying. Its a bit different with its 1/10 grain scale. To go digital I was looking at Hornadys. Its a lot like RCBS Chargemaster, If I went digital thats what I would get. A balance beam scale is more that enough at this point considering I only load 20 to 40 at a sitting.

I don't know about that. I have two Chargemasters, and I have no trouble with 0.0 accuracy with a small mod I do.

You cannot convince me that accuracy to .01 grains is necessary for about 95% of all reloaders, and I've been at it for 50 years.
Why encourage budding reloaders to spend serious coin for something that they do not really need to produce quality ammo?

Regards, Dave.

I've only been at it 48 years, but, I'm with you on this one Dave. OP, I think you'll be happy with the M500.

Thanks for all the support, I know a scale can be tricky business when it comes to what one is right and each of us has our own unique needs and wants. Those whom suggested the RCBS M500 style were right on the money for me and maybe when my pennies have made some more babies I'll start looking at the charge master.

To Kryogen. I cannot stress what you said enough. Let this be my lesson learned the hard way :)

Willing to share your mod? Thx!

I've had a 505 Ohaus for 40 years and it's not going anyplace. I like the RCBS chargemaster I have as well. I use the 505 to work up loads as I can change to a different powder fast and don't need to dump the chargemaster. When loads are determined then the chargemaster can do it's thing, quickly and accurately.
