Finding the right shotgun

A few months ago a friend got me interested in skeet shooting. I have been doing a lot of reading since then and have an idea as to what I think I want, but all of the reading I have done agrees that the only way to be sure is to try it out. The friend that got me interested has high end over/unders that out of my price range, and I don't have enough experience to judge fit just by holding it at Cabelas. I live just outside of Edmonton, Alberta and I am wondering if there are any ranges nearby that have a selection of range guns I could try out or if there other options for trying out shotguns.

I am interested in a reasonably priced gas auto loader like the A300 Outlander from Beretta. Any opinions or suggestions here would also be appreciated.

Beaverhill Sporting Clays is a sporting clays operation that has Winchester SX-3 shotguns for rent. It is located just out of Tofield. Silver Willow Sporting Clays has several different rental guns available, but they are quite a ways from you. Just where do you intend to shoot skeet near Edmonton? As far as I know, the nearest skeet range is Camrose, where I shoot. If you were to come out to Camrose when we are shooting, you could at least shoulder several different shotguns to get an idea what fits. If we knew in advance, we might also be able to arrange a spare gun to let you shoot a round or two of skeet, if you bring some suitable target loads with you.

Unless the Spruce Grove Gun Club is able to re-open it looks like I will have an hour to drive to get somewhere I can use a shotgun. Thank you for the suggestions, I will check out both of them.

I truly appreciate the offer, please let me know the next time you are out shooting and I will try to make the drive.

We shoot skeet Thursdays at 6pm, and Sundays at 1pm.

That is great. I will PM you to arrange a day.

I have read some great things about this forum being supportive and helpful to those new to the sport, it looks like it was not exaggeration. It is great to be welcomed in so warmly.
