hey folks

Someone just offered my a Remington Nylon 77 as a trade on my old gun safe. i know very little about these rifles, but have a soft spot for 22 firearms.

can anyone school me on this rifle and give me an idea of it's value?

I have a Nylon 66 Apache Black , great gun , very accurate .

If the stock ever breaks , call Remington and they will give you a New 597 because the rifle is Garanteed for Life .

Here is some good history info .

Tom Frye
In October of 1959 in Reno Nevada, Tom Frye, a professional and championship skeet and trap shooter for Remington, set out to surpassmarcot_b.tif Topperwein’s world record. Frye used three Nylon 66 rifles and shot for 13 straight days, 8 hours a day at a pace of about 1,000 shots per hour . When it was all over he had only missed 6 times out of 100,010 for a new record of 100,004 two and a half inch square wood blocks. The rifles had only been cleaned three times in the 13 days. Interestingly, Remington put one of the wood blocks from the record into each of the boxes of the newly shipped rifles. I would guess those would be the holy grail for Nylon rifle collectors if one could be found and verified.
Frye was the last of the trick shooters employed by a major firearms company for several decades. Besides his wood block record, he held a number of clay target records as well. I remember seeing him on the Mike Douglas talk show in 1975 shooting thrown objects out of the air. Imagine seeing popular trick shooting on a national syndicated talk show today! Frye died in 1982 at the age of 66.

hope this helps

the model 66 is a tube fed magazine [rear of stock] very reliable ...the model 77 has a magazine [clip] not very reliable lot of "stovepipes" ..i had both of the models but my favorite one is the 66 ...

Interesting info on the 77 , I have never owned a 77 nor shot one so I cannot comment on it's reliability .

As you have one Black power you have the knowledge and experience as an owner of one to give a good insight on it's ability for operate .

My 66 tube fed through the stock runs perfect , it does not like CCI Stingers as the cases are a hair longer than the standard 22lr and some times FTE occur , other than that it's a great 22 .

I have a '66' inherited from an old rancher,it was his 'go to ' rifle. The only issue it had was it wouldn't cycle, the old guy had faithfully oiled it but never shot it since he retired 20 years ago,the gun was so gummed up it wouldn't shoot ...brake cleaner works wonders

Have you gotten a 597 from them for a broken stock? I have a 66 with a broken stock.

Don't use brake cleaner ..nylon and plastic internal parts can melt ...the model 66 and 77are very easy to take apart and i always use compressed air to clean parts ..also don't use oil ..

HI Gasgussler

NO . I read a post on here that a fellow member broke his Mohawk Brown ( pic included ) and he contacted Remington who offered him a new 597 because the 66's were ganateed for life and they have no more parts for the 66's .

So if I had a broken 66 I would contact Remington .
